Format Hole in SW Florida - Classic Country

With three Country stations in Fort Myers that all play the same music - in addition to the rimshots on 92.1 and 92.9 - why doesn't one of those stations flip to a Classic Country format? Hell Yeah 93.7, since it is the newest of the stations, would be the likeliest candidate. Even a Nash Icon-type format would work better and differentiate the station from the many other Country stations in the market.

Any thoughts?

You would ask the geniuses at Sun to give up on a radio station whose 15 minutes of fame so far are because of a Cape Coral High School yearbook ad debacle? Right now, they're too busy painting bullseyes on their shoes while "planning" their next big promotion. But, seriously, a Classic Country would work there. I guess everyone in the market is trying so hard to play follow-the-leader that nobody wants to actually LEAD.

you had a classic country station, Twang 106.7 and 1410, WMYR.... it doesnt appear to be runnign that format anymore and went back to Relevant Radio.

I love classic country, i make money in the format, if it was possible, i think someone would be doing it again down there.

Twang was on a translator and no one listens to music on AM anymore. I just don’t see how a third signal that plays the exact music as two established stations is better than Classic Country.

Two problems: Classic country of the '60s and 70s and even the early '80s attracts unsellable 55+ listeners. But mainstream country stations are already playing a lot of '90s/'00s country as gold, even devoting whole hours (lunch usually) to it, and it has so much appeal to current country listeners, who are fueling a huge revival of '90s-style country, that breaking those old songs off onto a format of their own doesn't appeal to enough of an audience. One place this more modern interpretation of classic country is working is Dallas/Fort Worth, where classic KPLX and contemporary KSCS are posting nearly identical beauty pageant (6+ or 12+) numbers. But I have no idea how they compare in billing.

I’m talking more about a focus on 80s and 90s music. WWGR plays only one 90s cut at lunch. The other two stations play very little 90s gold.
