SA PPMs

From RadioInsight:
iHeartMedia AC “Q101.9” KQXT surges up 6.0 to 14.0. Ratings Expert Chris Huff notes it is up significantly from its 10.8 share in December 2021 and not far off from its Holiday 2021 station record high of 15.9. Cox Classic Hits 101.1 KONO-FM is off 8.0 to 7.5. iHeartMedia Country “KJ 97” KAJA holds at a 5.3. Cox Rock 99.5 KISS is down 5.9 to 5.0. Cox Country “Y100” KCYY (4.4 to 4.1), Cox Classic Rock “106.7 The Eagle” KTKX (4.4 to 4.1), and Alpha Media Variety Hits “102.7 Jack-FM” KJXK (4.7 to 4.1) tie for fifth.

iHeartMedia Regional Mexican “La Preciosa 105.7” KQXT-HD3 trends up 1.5 – 1.8 – 2.1.

Top 10-
Q101.9: Nov 6.0, Dec 14.0
KONO: Nov 8.0 Dec 7.5
KJ97: Nov 5.3 Dec 5.3
KISS: Nov 5.9 Dec 5.0
Y100: Nov 4.4 Dec 4.1
Jack FM: Nov 4.7 Dec 4.1
The Beat: Nov 3.5 Dec 3.5
Magic 105.3: Nov 4.2 Dec 3.3
Vibe 107.5: Nov 3.6 Dec 3.3
96.1 NOW: Nov 3.9 Dec 3.2

94.1 KTFM- is at 0.9 down from the previous month of 1.2. It Sports were profitable in SA, IHeart would have placed it on the FM dial many years ago. The same applies to the Tejano format. Univision would have kept the format on 107.5 or brought it back when they recently flipped 95.1.

This may be wishful thinking, but I hope Alpha Media brings its Groove format to SA.
The station is #3 in the market.

In my area, we have an HD2 similar to Groove that may in fact be starting soon on a translator. This plays a lot of oldschool R&B though.

But is it maybe too close to Vibe 107.5 for SA?

IMO: Seems like the only Alpha station touting the Nielsen numbers would be Jack-FM. The rest of the cluster is happy as a lark courting Local-Direct buys and not giving a flinch to next month's numbers. They gave Energy 94.1 a good shot but pimping out local sports (Star) and local talk (KTSA) will be on those sticks for the long haul. Anybody sampled WE 94.5 lately? Pretty solid rotation aimed at The Beat- just on a poor signal.

No other frequency has the power to mount an attack on iHeart or Cox to protect or deflect for JACK-FM. They have a solid Norteno sales group last time i looked. If Tejano 95.7/103.3 is in the Alpha 2023 playbook, it needs to reinvent itself and fast. Tejano programmer at heart right here, but the shine is wearing off and it is a tired offering for a serious 25-54 run...

If Tejano is that bad, why is there KEDA/KLMO/even KXTN? KXTN is about to be sold, but the other two smaller broadcasters must love Tejano along with Alpha.

KXTN's sale closed on Friday of last week. Done deal. It will continue "as is" until the Soros-funded talk network is ready to go.

The other two Tejano stations are small operations, unable to compete in signal and programming. Note that nobody said that Tejano was bad... it is a format that has a small audience today, and only attracts those over about 50 or so.

I prefer Groove because of the variety they have from 80's Freestyle, Pop, Classic Hip Hop, and R&B.

If that were the case with Star and KTSA, Alpha should have left the Sports format on 103.3. Why waste the second best signal in the cluster?

The closing almost slipped by me, though there was more coverage of the actual FCC approval. LMN does have a website: Latino Media Network

Article about the sale closing: Latino Media Network Completes Purchase Of 18 Radio Stations From Univision.

Will be interesting to see what happens in markets where LMN has acquired multiple stations, but we might not see any changes until early 2024.

That is a dynamite rotation and honestly that SHOULD be what the VIBE 1075 should pattern... They will not touch the 1987-1992 Pop/New Jack Swing era R&B and suffocate that audience to a Sunday night mix show. With that type of playlist, they would be a serious contender to knock down KONO, KQXT, KSMG and KJXK. Besides 103.3, I dont see an ALPHA SA signal mean enough to make a dent...

The same could be said about 105.7. Yet, the PPMs have them rising despite their lack of coverage.

Anyhow, Groove 94.1 sounds good to me. And it would be a nice combo with WE 94.5 targeting the youth of SA.
