KSL's news at the time was known as KSL 5 Eyewitness News, not just Channel 5 News and it was like that from the 70s up until 2009.

Once again, thanks for that correction. BTW, where do you get more accurate historic info on newscast titles?

Knowledge from my brain plus this site...

That's where I check too, although it seems to read just "Eyewitness News" on both that website and in the Utah newspaper archives from around that time. Just did a little further research, and Wikipedia says that it became "KSL 5 Eyewitness News" in 2002, likely after the Olympics.

Regardless, it wasn't Channel 5 News.

I think that Salt Lake City was the only market in the Mountain time zone where NBC's prime-time coverage of the 2002 Winter Olympics aired at the same hour as the Eastern and Central time zones.

In the rest of the Mountain and Pacific time zones, NBC's prime-time coverage aired on a delay (one hour in the rest of the Mountain time zone and three hours in the Pacific time zone).

I think daytime coverage may have been seen at the same time throughout all of the "Lower 48".

At several Olympics in the past two decades, NBC coverage during the overnight hours was an edited rebroadcast of coverage that was originally broadcast earlier that night in prime-time.

In recent years, NBC's prime-time coverage was shown at the same time across the entire continental United States, as at the last four Olympics (the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyongchang, South Korea, the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, and last year's Winter Olympics in Beijing, China), there were numerous events taking place during American television prime-time that could air live.

But for the next two Olympics (next year's Summer Olympics in Paris and the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy), NBC's prime-time coverage will likely run from 8 P.M.-12 Midnight Eastern and Pacific (7-11 P.M. Central and Mountain) given that with the time difference, there will be no events taking place during American TV prime-time.

But daytime coverage for both Olympics (probably 9 A.M.-5 P.M. EDT for Paris and 1-5 P.M. EST for Milan) will likely be seen at the same time across the full network, given that there will be numerous events taking place during those hours that can be shown live.

So you're saying that the SLC area newspapers' schedules were an hour later than listed, let alone NBC affiliate KSL Channel 5?
