It doesn't hurt to be the only station in a market playing Christmas Music as the holiday approaches.

Big drop for 100.7 Big FM. Last spring/ summer they were #1 and often pulling 8 shares. What happened? Music mix is still pretty much the same.

Using the Holiday book for comparison with the rest of the year is kinda' dangerous. Not only do the all-Christmas stations shoot upwards, the temporary shift in listening detracts from other stations that normally are used by the people who are listening to Christmas music.

I sent a message to 100.7 last week over Facebook. Their format is allegedly Adult Hits or Variety Hits, with a tagline of "We Play Anything" a la the former Jack FM on the same frequency, and they DO have a wide variety of music.... but there is nothing NEW. It is basically Classic Hits with a variety twist that 98.1 doesn't have. When I asked them about that, they gave me a weak answer saying "You are correct. We leave the new music to our sister station Z90." Okay, Z90 is a (mostly) Rhythmic Top 40 station that may rarely play current or recurrent songs with more adult appeal. With 91X taking a mostly Classic Alternative approach, no AAA station in the area, and really no co-owned station in the market to protect format-wise, I don't understand why they wouldn't add some AC/Hot AC/AAA type current or recurrent product to 100.7 to make it truly a Variety Adult Hits format, to compete not only with 98.1 but also 94.1 and 96.5 - they don't need to add artists that are well covered by Z90 or Channel 93.3 but even if they play two to four newer songs an hour it would fit the "We Play Anything" format and would continue to appeal to their core audience. When I mentioned this to them I didn't get a response.

If Big FM were more like The Current , that would be great. It's a format that isn't serving the San Diego area at all. When 102.1 KPRI was somewhat AAA at least we got to hear a variety of new artists.

What about their sister station Magic 92.5 XHRM?

What about their sister station Magic 92.5 XHRM?
Magic is primarily old school R&B, with occasional rhythmic recurrents. They do not play traditional AC, Hot AC or AAA type music. 91X is Classic Alternative with occasional new Alternative. Local Media San Diego does not have any station they need to protect that is playing AC, Hot AC or AAA. Big FM is the closest thing they have, but they are not playing new music.

91X already plays AAA stuff though. New music adds are half that stuff.
See my post above. They are more standard alternative than AAA. As mentioned by another poster, they are at one or two new songs per hour, which is from the straight alternative genre. I was a DJ on the old Sets 102/KPRI and there was a distinct difference in the music that was considered AAA. Sure, some of it was shared with 91X but not all of it....and 91X wouldn't dare play traditional AC or Hot AC - Big has a "Big" opportunity that I feel they are not taking advantage of, but that's my $.02 .

Also, when your tagline is "We Play Anything" and then you intentionally avoid new music, recurrents and some 2000s-2010s gold, is that really playing "anything?" Sounds more like "we play anything....as long as it's at least twenty to fifty years old or so."

I agree with your point no worries haha
I just know looking at the media base stuff, some new songs are stuff charting on AAA like Alvvays' Easy On Your Own as an example, 91X being one of the few alt stations playing that.

BIG FM's tagline annoys me too haha, it's not really anything. I could call in and tell em to play some 2010's song that would fit the station's format and they wouldn't have it.
