NYC Radio Commercial

Back in the 1980’s there was a commercial on NYC TV. I want to say it was from Kiss 98.7 but l haven’t been able to find anything on YouTube. In the commercial, there’s a cupid and If I’m not mistaken, one of the songs playing in the background was “Up Where We Belong”. I’m almost certain it was a Kiss 98.7 commercial but haven’t been able to find it. Anyone on here remembers this commercial?

I think the cupid TV commercial you are remembering may be one for WYNY 97. They were highlighting how they played many different types of music. The cupid was contrasting to WPIX.

102 WPIX "Love songs, nothing but love songs" with cupids shopping, then it played a golden oldie with hippies in the background clearly making fun of WCBS-FM, then it made fun of WPLJ and WHTZ by showing people with purple hair playing "Break My Stride" by Matthew Wilder.

Then it said something to the effect of "Every one we know like all types of music, 97 WYNY." I think they then showed "normal" people with "Listen to the Music" by the Doobie Brothers playing.

Thanks! It looks like the commercial was actually from WPIX. I do remember it now because of the songs in the background. I just don’t remember Carly Simon being in it:

WPIX has another commercial with an actual cupid in it.So there might be more commercials that haven’t been uploaded yet.

That 'Cupid' ad was used by stations in multiple markets. I remember seeing it in San Francisco for K101-FM, in 1984(when I was 10).
I happened to see the WPIX version at on a coin-op TV at JFK airport that year. It was my first trip away from California...and the first evidence I'd seen that the same ads could air for different stations in different cities.

Interestingly before Westinghouse merged with CBS Radio there used to be an ad where WCBS-AM attempted to sway listeners away from WINS-AM in 1993. It's one of those ads that cannot be done anymore given that WINS Radio and WCBS are Audacy News New York.

I had no idea that ad aired in California. I barely remember that commercial but it did grab my attention as a kid. So much that I still remember it to this day.

Hint hint to radio executives.
