Sling TV Launches Free Ad-Supported Streaming Service

Dish Launches the Free edition of Sling TV to compete against Freevee, Pluto, and Tubi in the Free Ad Supported Streaming service.

Sling TV, the live streamer owned by Dish, today is launching a free ad-supported streaming service similar to Pluto TV and Tubi that will offer more than 210 channels and 41,000 on-demand titles.

The free service, called Sling Freestream, is available on all Roku devices, and will be added soon to select LG, Samsung and Vizio TVs. The free channels and titles include ABC News Live, CBS News, Cheddar News, ESPN On Demand, FailArmy, FilmRise, Cinema: Boxed In, Dilemma, GoTraveler, Rick Steves Europe, Anthony Bourdain A Cook’s Tour, The Pet Collective, The Walking Dead Universe and VH1 I Love Reality, among others.

They already had sling free. Dont see how this will be much different.
It has a cable tv type grid available now like the live portions of the Roku channel and Freevee. But it doesn't have much I'm interested in that isn't available from the other two. And you need to have the Sling app installed to get it.

Sling free already had that. It looks like a downgrade actually. Sling free didnt have ads either.

I didn't know about the grid before, but I did know about the free channels. It may have been in a testing phase, but I tried it out and didn't like it as well as Pluto TV, the Roku channel, or Freevee and didn't keep it. I tried again with the recent announcement and it isn't any better to me. I still like Pluto TV the best.

I also knew nothing about Sling's free service until reading this thread. It's among the apps on Xfinity's Flex service but I always assumed it was purely subscription-based, like YouTube TV. Many of the channels are also offered on Pluto, Xumo and/or Tubi, which are the free apps I've been using since moving here in late 2021, but a few are unique to Sling.
