I was trying to find a map that made it look like the towns where the Las Vegas Strip (and therefore most of the attractions) were some distance away from Las Vegas itself.

That's because there's really no distinction and no distance. It's one big sprawling metropolitan area, and there's not even signage to tell you you're entering the incorporated "City of Las Vegas" as opposed to being in unincorporated Clark County. Unless you're making property tax payments or taking out a building permit, nobody cares. Most governmental services are provided at the county level, including police.
