KLFK 98.7, Wells

They have a year and a half to get it on-air.

Does anyone know what they will do or if they will make it? That group owns the 100.3/94.3 translator in north Austin. The Austin translator retransmits a Waco Christian talk AM. I hope they can get the Wells station and others they won in the 2021 FCC auction on in time, but not sure how well Christian talk will do in Lufkin/Nacogdoches. There are a lot of Christian stations there already.

Maybe go Adult Contemporary or classic hits/oldies, just a random suggestion.

@011nerve Keep Boldly Believing the Word, sir. ABoT owns the primary AM feeding station feeding those translators in Waco, Killeen-Belton-Temple, and Round Rock, as well. Once built, the Wells facility will extend their programming into deep ETX. Unless the CP is sold or traded, and so you're aware, Houston Christian Broadcasters has been recently acquiring signals around the State, at an unusually quicker pace, so a sale or trade to them would also be plausible.

I wouldn't even count out the ERFET. A 3rd signal for "The Well" wouldn't seem far fetched, given the recent purchase of Z 97.7, in the very same area, for their Spanish language "Fuzíon" programming.

That area doesn't need another Christian station LOL
Who else is making purchases of these facilities in small to mid sized markets, or going through the entire auction process, in the case of KLFK?

If you make the attempt at a commercial operation In Lufkin, you then split the dollar store pie with Townsquare and Stephen Yates. It's a rather small pie, btw, and you're up against the former Clear Channel cluster and the Yates family, who has successfully operated in the Piney Woods, with longstanding advertisers who will ride or die until the end with the Yates.

Townsquare had an Adult Contemporary in Lufkin-Nacogdoches for years. "My 94.7" KVLL-FM was a well established AC. Today, it is "Juan", and attempts to shave a couple numbers from the long established "Super Mix", brought to you by the aforementioned Stephen Yates.

So I ask, now knowing the dynamics of what you would face in bringing life to a new station in Lufkin-Nacogdoches, what else would you suggest, that has as good a chance at recapturing your initial investment, than a non secular, Christian based format?

LOL Yates had a translator on 104.1 last year, not sure if it's still there but it was announcing as a Yates station. The problem is 104.1 was deleted by the FCC in 2021.

I'm not sure about what 98.7 will do.

This confirms what I had expected. I thank you for being a listener, and you're a valuable part of the broadcasting equation. Without your ears glued to your listening device, there would be little point for any broadcaster in continuing to ply the craft. However, throwing wild accusations of illegal activities around, instead of answering a simple question posed to you kind of says it all in what you wish to bring to the table.

You just keep on listening, sir. We'll keep on providing the entertainment. 98.7 will be Christian based teaching and music, upon sign on. You know for sure, now.

It's still there but no longer a translator..it's a full power pirate, at least 6kw going on it's coverage, on 104.1 using the callsign of 1340 AM KRBA which was dead air for months last times I was in the area..

You made a good point earlier, RoseCity. There really isn't much to do *other* than Christian programming now you factor in the big radio players and what they have covered.

Maybe I shouldn't have brought up 104.1, but I wouldn't call that "wild accusations" if confirmed by more than 1 person. They even have a Facebook page! :)

I can also confirm that (D)K281CZ was, and may still very well be, in operation as "KRBA". Poor choice of words on my part, but when I posed an honest question to you about alternatives to launching another Christian format on KLFK, your response was to change subjects and bring up Stephen Yates. The point being, you as a listener, have the power to go through the proper procedures and get something done about it.

So, what is holding you back? Are you not a resident of Lufkin, and were "just passing through"? It accomplishes nothing to air your grievances here, other than the satisfaction of voicing your apparent frustration with the current situation, I guess, but why not go about voicing your concerns with those who can actually do something to remedy the situation? This is the same question I posed on the translator situation going on down in Houston. If it bothers you, and it should, get out of your comfort zone and take action.

You might be interested to here that the new KKJX, up the road in J'Ville, will NOT be programming a Christian based format when it is ready for launch. I've been privileged to hear what Bill is building for his audience first hand, and I look forward to witnessing many years of success for both him and his new station. He is one of the good apples.

He doesnt even live in Texas.. hes in the KC Metro

I think classic hits/adult hits or urban AC would be good for KLFK. The signal coverage looks to be OK, but it’d be nice if they could move the tower closer to Lufkin and Nacogdoches to be more competitive. They might be pinned in by KTUX and KTJM.

If the Yates family were to obtain it, Urban AC to compliment KZXL would be a no-brainer. The signal should be rather compatible to what Z97.7 had, prior to the ERFET building out the upgraded facility. KTUX would be part of the problem. There's also a 2nd adjacent Class A in Pineland that would need to be protected, as well.

104.1 was not on the air when I was there on the 14th. I did not check the AM station though.

With the news that Bryan Broadcasting just bought KJCS, I think they may be a contender to acquire KLFK. They run new country, classic country, CHR, CCM, news/talk, and sports in their B/CS cluster. If they get ahold of KLFK, it may be possible that they run classic country or sports based on the company profile. I wouldn’t rule out classic hits. Their B/CS stations have creative imaging, so it would be neat if they could get KLFK, too.

Texas Country, Regional Mexican, CCM, and Southern Gospel too, Jay.

Hey, you never know. This will be Bryan Broadcasting's entry into Lufkin-Nacogdoches, so do they make a big splash, or barely cause a minor ripple? Classic Country or Texas Country would most assuredly be the ripple. Y spins its fair share of classics, Country Legends from Houston plays nothing but the classics too. Then there's KIVY and KQBB available in parts of the market, running classic country as well. Something tells me that a bigger change than just "Willy" branding is coming to 103.3.

B/CS is a sports town, and while I am a fan of the 'Jacks, SFA and A&M couldn't be further apart on the spectrum of relevance. One sports station, KSML, and it's clearing all bird feed on a bad AM and not much better translator. Don't see sports as the likely path, either.

At this early juncture, and this is just pure speculation on my part, but I think they may give "Peace" a chance in Lufkin-Nacogdoches.

Regarding the thread topic, I believe you guys are over thinking KLFK. There's really no reason, at this time, to believe ABoT will not build out the facility and instead sell the construction permit.

It has until October of next year, maybe SBS or Radio One wants it... LOL

It was no translator. It was a full-blown FM running several kilowatts. It had 30 mile coverage at least.. It's not there anymore.. I think Johnny Le at the FCC in Dallas made a visit
