Changes at WATR Waterbury.

Has anyone noticed the recent changes at WATR.
Fox news on the hour is gone. Syndicated fox shows also gone. The fox sport shows at night and weekends gone.
It also looks like the live local Talk of the Town show host Steve Noxon is gone. Tom Chute is still the morning host. Right now it seems like they are filling in with music off the computer. As of yesterday they added ABC network news.
Any information is appreciated

That station is/was a hodge podge of stuff that didnt belong.. jazz and standards or whatever on the weekends? oldies on sunday night?

the people listening to jazz and oldies and local talk, probably werent listening to fox sports....

The only reason WATR has existed is its heritage carrier them, in a market liek Waterbury, you need to be a bit mroe uniform in your sound and approach to the audience youre after

Here's an article about the changes:

And here's one that's not behind a paywall.

Ugh. I've tried several times to listen to WATR and they're always running Dead Air. The other night I tuned in during the 10PM hour and they were carrying The UCONN Women's Basketball game. When coverage ended at 10:43PM they went straight to Dead Air. It lasted well over 10 minutes at which point I switched back to the station I normally listen to.

Then yesterday afternoon I tuned in at 2PM and they were running a UCONN game again. When I tuned in again during the 10PM hour they were running Dead Air.

Agreed there is dead air in between some of the programming segments, & with their Gold AC-based playlist, there are some songs that have a few seconds of dead air in between before the next song starts - some AC stations used that for "Pause For Effect", & others have a tighter segue. Maybe a computer adjustment?

Heard "It Never Rains In Southern California" by Albert Hammond twice within 30 mins. around midnight on Thurs., 02/10. So, there are issues with the same song repeating within a short amount of time, & the same song repeating (repetition) at the same time of day or night. For example, I'm listening to "You Are" by Lionel Richie now, & heard it at the same time last night.

Also music was playing at the same time the uconn women's basketball game was on.
You would think that their engineer would have had these issues solved already.

Programming seemed a little better tonight, Fri., 02/11, but, I still heard Albert Hammond's "It Never Rains In Southern California" twice around midnight. I listened from 10:30pm until 1am. Segues seemed tighter, & there was less repetition. Didn't hear the same songs play that I heard last night at the same time.

Better this week, but I heard "Anticipation" by Carly Simon & "Feel Like Makin' Love" by Roberta Flack twice between the hours of 11pm & Midnight on Fri., 02/18

Our now-gone local WPAM 1450 Posstville had similar clunks back when they were Oldies. I think they used Audio Vault as the music player.
Ugh. Song end. Pause. Lame liner. Pause. Another song.
'Cross state Oldies 1470 Allentown WSAN (and a few others I've heard on the air and through streams) is much tighter. The early Cool Edit we used at our wee LPFM was really smooth, with long fades and cold ends being mixed well with the liners. And that was 15 years ago.

Cool EDit doesnt play music, its not automation. You can trim up some silence and sometimes set seg tones in them, but that can also be done in the automation.

Audiovault is quite a fine systme, ive used it before and had it sounding good.. its down to how the station itself utilizies and sets the automation

How far does 97.7's signal get out? I can pick it up even on a clock radio at my location in Southington near the Bristol and Plainville line. In the car I know I've gotten it on Route 322 (MW Turnpike) in the Plantsville section of Southington. I started losing the signal going up Route 71 (Chamberlain Highway) in Meriden heading towards "the mall."

I think you kinda answered your own question.

It's also directional but up on West Peak so that helps, so does looking at this map, tells part of he story
