Freaky First Month

I understand all the shows are best of. but is it normal to have each of the different shows airing their best of segments during times when their shows normally don’t air? This station is just so weird.

Also, why do all the mics sound like they're from a 1984 Radio Shack, in a rest stop bathroom, with water in them? It's market 5. Isn't it embarrassing, or do stations and companies not get embarrassed anymore?
must be an iheart thing. iHeart Houston moved into new studios earlier this year and I noticed their mics sounded horrible. They still do. I get the feeling the new studios and equipment were done very cheap. The studios themselves look like small conference rooms

i wonder if this flip wasn't done via decision on a regional level or local level but instead from the higher ups from the highest level in New York at IHM headquarters, this feels like someone in New York said "yeah, i think DFW needs a new Sports talk station" and saw the Eagle was tanking bad and wanted to go scorched earth with it hence the departure of The Treehouse FKA The Russ Martin Show and Don Davis, as someone in New York was in "punish the failures" mode and treated it like a football team with a winless season record of no wins.
This wasn’t a New York decision. I believe this was done on a local level between Rhyner and Patrick Davis. I’m just shocked that iHeart signed off on it.

I’ll also say this, there are a lot of radio people watching what happens with the Freak. Beasley already flipped an Alt Station in Vegas to Hot Talk. Could be a trend if there is success (which I’d bet against in the case of The Freak)

sounds like they are getting ready to launch a podcast.
i listened to the video in their tweet. On tweeter noticed the radio was tuned to 103.7 as the bumper music was playing. Some suspect with a fan in the background and a Texas rangers bobble head they could be going to 105.3. The fam actually makes sense, if they want to combat 97.1’s hot talk/sports format. Hmm…

That’s a good observation. If you listen to the music on the radio as it changes stations, it does sound like it stops on 103.7 before the Treehouse theme comes on. Either putting them on 103.7 (where much of the KEGL audience migrated to) or 105.3 would work to compete against 97.1. My vote is 103.7 as it doesn’t disrupt 105.3’s lineup and because KVIL needs more personalities.

I'd think they'd have a better chance ending up on 105.3 if they aren't going the podcast route. 103.7 did better dropping the talk, it would be odd for them to go back to it.

Apples and oranges if you ask me. It fared worse with two talk intensive shows, both from out of the market. This is a different situation, where you have local personalities that already have a following moving to a station that absorbed a lot of listeners from their old station.

Of course they launched a podcast. Not being mean but those 2 guys aren't talented enough to have a radio show in a top 100 market. It's just true.

KVIL does need more personalities, but they destroyed KEGL by emphasizing the music and by all metrics it looks like it’s continued to work. If they hire a morning show it will have to be music intensive. The Treehouse guys won’t be a good fit for that.
