Reds continue with 700 WLW

No surprise It's not like they have another station to go to or their was anyone else interested in the Reds in the Cincinnati
market.

I am surprised they signed a 5 year deal for AM only.
This is just speculation but I wouldn't be surprised if they are on FM eventually as I could see WLW adding 107.1 or given how WEBN is floundering they could go there but it's probably a long shot

Technically they're on FM already with 94.5, but a co-flagship is plausible for sure.
I don't see them leaving WLW anytime in the foreseeable future. iHeart runs things in Cincinnati and WLW is such a perfect local and regional outlet for the Reds, Bengals, UC and Xavier.

I’ve wondered the same thing. Seems inevitable that WLW will need to add a full-powered FM at some point, but since iHeart only owns two FMs in the market, which one do they blow up? KISS 107 gets them the female demos that they need since WLW, WEBN, WSAI, and WCKY are male dominant. But EBN has so much heritage and tradition in this market, the fireworks, etc. It would be hard to kill them off. OTOH, if the ratings continue to tank…..

Tank?

The Fall average (Oct-Dec) was 10.4 in 2022, 12.2 in 2021, 10.0 in 2020, 9.1 in 2019, 10.4 in 2018 and 8.4 in 2017.

It seems to me that the most recent average of several months is well within the higher historical range and hardly "tanking".

I wonder why iHeart decided to hold on to the inferior 107.1 signal back in 2008 rather than putting the Kiss format on 92.5 or 94.1 and putting 107.1 into the Aloha trust.

My apologies for an apparent poor choice of words. Since I’ve been out of the radio business for over 30 years the only numbers I can see are 12+ which of course you don’t sell. But they’ve depicted a gradual erosion for EBN while 96 Rock continues to nip at their heels. You don’t specify which demos you are citing. Those numbers do indeed look good; however, if you’re looking at fall ratings there may be a bump thanks to Bengals games. But I’ll take your word for it. My general point was — hopefully stated more clearly this time — in the event that EBN’s numbers do decline or are declining, iHeart will have some tough decisions if they need an FM signal for WLW.

The signals they held on to are the inferior 4 Ancient Modulation signals with the one exception, 55KRC being on 550 which is just about as strong as 700 in the daytime. I always questioned why they didn't dump 1530 and 1360 instead of swapping 92.5 and 94.1 with Cumulus years ago.

I think they did it so they can control all the big signal AMs in Cincinnati so a competitor couldn't bid up the rights to Reds games.
It worked I read somewhere that the Reds get the third smallest right fees for radio

The Willie interview with Bob Castellini on opening day was priceless. I was transported back to when I was PD there....."don't piss off our partners"..."don't cost us revenue".... "Suck it up and forget about the listeners"

Bob is worse on the script than Biden.

Shame on you Willie. Lost respect for you today.

Nothing but a shill. Sad
