1680 simulcasting KKOL 1300

I had the car radio scanning through the AM band this morning to check reception conditions when I noticed English on 1680 rather than the "La Patrona" Spanish format. Then I heard Dennis Prager talk and, sure enough, 1680 is simulcasting its Salem sister on 1300.

This has to be a very recent change, as I remember hearing the Spanish format on 1680 last weekend.

Hearing English conservative talk on 1680 here, too. Heard Regional Mexican music on 1680 as recent as two nights ago. Obviously something got changed. 1680 gets out a little better to various sections of the metro than 1300 anyway.

Website is still La Patrona, complete with Spanish language headlines and links to major stories concerning Mexico and Latin America (in Spanish).

Maybe the shift to // KOL is just temporary.

Waiting till this thread changes over to something about KIXI...

Heard them IDing as KKOL and KNTS. Maybe the change is a genuine format flip on 1680 instead of programming being shifted due to some sort of equipment breakdown.

Hopefully we can say the same for that station too. RIP KIXI. One can only dream....
Just out of curiosity, why are we rooting for KIXI to fail? The station certainly has its problems (more than its fair share), but there’s still some interesting content on 880 once in a while. It’s certainly a place to hear music that you don’t get to hear all of that often. If anything, it’s interesting to see what will ultimately end up happening.

A: Its a beleaguered AM station currently going through radio-hospice with no tangible future.
B: If it were gone, there would be less need to reminisce about the nonexistent, 'good ol' days' of KIXI on this board.

KIXI only became somewhat interesting to me when they started playing some of the songs KBSG abandoned, and even then I didn't listen much. The only reason it's in my radio's presets is because it's one of the few AM stations I was even remotely interested in when I lived up there, and I haven't reprogrammed my radios yet.

Back on the topic at hand:

As for KIXI, it’s fairly evident by now that the radio station is on life support, but heck, I still listen to it from time to time. I actually think it will be interesting to see what ends up happening with 880 when all is said and done. As I’ve said before, 880 provides a very good signal during the daytime, and for that reason I don’t lump it into the same pile as other completely unviable AM signals.

As for 1680, it seems like the owners are dedicated to the “La Patrona” format. Not to mention, there’s really no reason for a simulcast when 1680 is likely an inferior signal.

My guess RE 880 is it stays the way it is for a while until it's flipped to all-brokered (or sports betting?), and maybe the present KIXI music programming stays on KRWM's HD3 or online streaming (provided the streaming can be monetized).

RE: 1680: comes in well into West Seattle, right now with conservative talk. Website still is La Patrona, with La Patrona programs and other items in Spanish posted. Online stream via its website doesn't seem to be working right now, at least not to this particular computer.... Salem Media Seattle still lists La Patrona on 1680.
