Scott Shannon on 107.1 The Boss?

I swear I heard a station promo on "The Boss" (107.1 WWZY / 99.7 WBHX) that was read by Scott Shannon. They also have new "Boss Radio" jingles and don't seem to call themselves "Classic Rock" anymore. They're playing more pop-friendly rock hits of the '80s and '90s, just like what Scott preferred when he was on WPLJ.

I heard them play "When Doves Cry". I'm all in favor of Classic Rock stations playing Prince, but unfortunately they don't, so that's why I consider "The Boss" to be Classic Hits now.

99.1 WAWZ also has jingles that say "Star 99-1 New York", even though their tower is around 35 miles away from Manhattan. That's about the same distance as 107.1's tower is from NYC.

The Boss PD/morning host Robby Bridges has filled in on Scott's True Oldies Channel. And Scott has done voiceovers for other stations like WSGN in Birmingham, AL. So this doesn't surprise me.

"Best known as"? That's a stretch (and more subjective than Wikipedia should be anyway).

That aside, I heard the new TOH jingle (which incidentally is from an old TM WPLJ jingle package, albeit one that predates Scott's arrival by a year or two). It sings "107-1 The Boss, New Jersey, New York"! At least the Garden State is still in there.

They're also promoting a prize contest as "Your Free Money Station". I swear I remember WPLJ calling themselves that (although I'm sure it was common across the industry).

Sadly in radio-land, very little nowadays is "creative or new." Seems it's just easier that way to take something "old" and make it "new." In a way, it will always be "new" to someone I guess...

There isn't a new idea under the sun as they say. I'm glad The Boss is making some effort to preserve the amount of energy and personality that radio more commonly used to have.

Each do show up in the NYC radio ratings, though generally with fractions of a share. (Raise reasonable doubt that you are an NYC station by mentioning it). WAWZ says "Zarephath" like "Za'phath" 3 syllables down to 2 the one time an hour they mention it.
