Adieu to KPHF

VCY will be going 24 hours on 88.3 and is taking KVCP to HD so that it can feed Family Radio-owned K298CK (107.5). You might recall this was the translator bought from KNUV.

In exchange, KEBR in Sacramento will be going HD to allow VCY to broadcast its programming there. This opens the door for VCY to buy a translator there to air its programs. VCY is also paying Family Radio $800,000 for the privilege.

VCY purchased Cesar Chavez Foundation's portion of 88~Three for $4.9m in late 2018. Chavez was running a very commercial operation (KNAI) on a non-commercial frequency and decided to move to the commercial band by purchasing 8~Sixty AM and an FM translator. The timeshare agreement between Chavez & Family Radio goes back to the stations's start in 1992.

$800,000 for Family Radio's share (7:30p-4am) is quite reasonable as VCY becomes the sole operator of 88~Three.

I can't pick up 107.5 in my car at all unless I'm in the vicinity of the fairgrounds and the tunnel.
