February PPM/Raleigh-Durham

  • BIG growth for WFXC/WFXK "Foxy 107-104". The "Real Sound of the Triangle" is up 2 share from 8.5 to 10.5.
  • Spoken word takes #2 and #3; WTKK '106-1 FM Talk' down a bit from 8.3 to 8.0, but WUNC-FM down nearly a whole share (8.3 to 7.4), still good for a strong third place.
  • Classic Hits trimulcast WKIX-FM/WKXU/WKJO "Kix 102 FM", trends slightly down from a 5.6 to a 5.4 in the second set of numbers since they went to three signals, tying with AC WRAL-FM for #4.
  • Adult Hits WBBB "96-1 BBB" is down half a share, just ahead of sister station WQDR for 5th place.
  • In the country battle, "94-7 QDR"--at #6 overall-- is back to a 4.7--half a share growth over January and back to where they were in October. Competitor WNCB "B-93-9" is slightly down (4.2 to 4.1) but in 8th place.
  • Classic rock WRDU 100.7 is down slightly but overall steady at 7th place (4.5-4.3).
  • Spanish WYMY 101.1 "La Ley" down slightly from 3.5 to 3.2.
  • Contemporary Inspirational WNNL "The Light 103.9" is down 1.1 share for a 3.1.
  • For stations targeting the younger demographics:
    • In CHR, WDCG "G-105" is steady at 2.4 from last month tying with News/Talk WPTF 680 (and FM translator at 98.5), while "Pulse FM" is up 1.4 to 2.2--they added a stronger translator in the west at 103.7.
    • Hip hop WQOK is down 3.4 to 2.8.
    • Severely signal limited WRSV from Rocky Mount "92.1 Choice FM' is barely on the board with a tenth of a share (0.1).
  • Oldies WKIX (AM) drops slightly from 1.0 to 0.8, perhaps a picture of AM's continued struggles (In next-door Greensboro, not a single AM was listed in the ratings).
  • In Sports, WCMC '99.9 the Fan' is down half a share (3.1 to 2.7) while their AM (&FM HD subchannel) flanker WDNC/WCLY "The Buzz 620/1550" is anemic but steady at 0.3, tying with CBC sister formats "WRAL News Plus" format (WRAL-FM HD3 and translators 96.5 in Durham/99.3 in Raleigh) and "95.7 That Station"

Curtis should have left Pulse at 96.9/102.5. Better than the translators and I don’t see it’s helped Kix any. They should work on trying to get as many ears as they can with WDCG doing so poorly. There’s listeners to be picked up.

Kix 102 for it to be 1700 watts beating QDR that’s pretty damn good.

I wonder if they have a PPM encoder at WKJO (102.3). I don't recall them ever showing up in the monthlies, yet they seemed to have a decent following in the southeastern corner of the metro. Could explain their slight drop if some 102.9 listeners switched to 102.3. At any rate their beating WQDR is very impressive indeed. That's the one station Curtis never messes with.

I guess I was more so saying they’re doing about as well as they have, for good or bad since adding 102.3 and 102.5. They haven’t broken any
Records. There doesn’t seem to have been a massive boost if any. But maybe Pulse is actually benefitting more from the two translators? They were down after the switch, but now they’re narrowing the gap with G105 again.

I doubt they bought the numbers. Stations that don't buy aren't listed publicly anymore.

Curtis is subscribed and it appears the WKJO is in TLR with WKXU as Nielsen lists them as a simulcast.

No I meant before Curtis repurchased WKJO. The previous poster was referring to WKJO’s previous format as a Johnston County focused station.
