Whoopie 100.9 Portland

Nickname as in Whoopie pies.
"mostly 1980s focused to a focus on the 80s through 2000s with core artists listed as Aerosmith, Green Day, Journey, Prince, Guns & Roses, Elton John, and Bon Jovi. Positioning as “We Play Everything”, the new brand will run jockless"

Well, maybe not _everything_ (classical? country?) but a variety within those decades

Generic "Jack" format on the cheap, nothing to get excited about. The variety would seem to be heavily rock-leaning, if the core artists are any indication.

It was tough for Rewind 100.9 as a Classic Hits station because it had 100,000 watt Frank 107.5 WFNK to deal with. Frank is sometimes Portland's #1 station and is a cross between Classic Hits and Classic Rock. It only plays Classic Hits titles that also got played on Album Rock stations. Meanwhile 25,000 watt WYNZ had a more standard Classic Hits playlist. A few times an hour you'd hear a song that was too pop or dance for Frank-FM to play.

Now I guess WYNZ Whoopie 100.9 will get right between Classic Hits/Classic Rock hybrid WFNK and Classic Rock outlet WBLM, which is also one of Portland's top stations. But that also means Portland has no true Classic Hits station. (Although 104.3 WABK-FM Gardner is heard in some parts of the market.)

At least give credit to a unique branding…

Its not the first Whoopie.... WUPE AM/translator/Full power FM has been Whoope for.. at least 20 years, pronouncing their call letters like a word.
