Guardians 2023

It may not feel like it with the team starting on a left coast trip, but the Guardians are back, and here's how the broadcast side lines up:

Radio:
For the 12th straight year it's the Hammy and Rosey Show, with lead announcer Tom Hamilton and partner Jim Rosenhaus. The games are heard on longtime flagships WTAM 1100/106.9 and WMMS 100.7, with affiliates WAKR 1590/93.5 Akron, WHBC 1480 Canton, WEOL 930/100.3 Elyria/Lorain, WKBN 570 Youngstown and WLEC 1450/93.5 Sandusky/Vacationland

TV:
The longtime crew of Matt Underwood (play by play), Rick Manning (analyst), Andre Knott (reporter), Al Pawlowski (pre/postgame host) and Jensen Lewis (pre/postgame analyst) return, with the games televised on Bally Sports Great Lakes (bankruptcy or not) with a handful of games simulcast on WKYC NBC 3.

Individually, this is both Hamilton and Manning's 34th season, tying them with Herb Score for the longest serving broadcaster in Tribe/Guards history. Underwood is in his 24th season (combined radio and TV), Rosenhaus and Pawlowski are in the 14th year of their respective gigs, and Knott and Lewis are each in their 9th.

It was monotonous constantly play the Twins, Tigers, Royals and White Sox. It's nice that we won't be seeing them as much any more.

For the last few years, Hammy has been taking time off during the season, usually during a west coast trip. I assume he will be doing the same again this year.

Of note, WLEC has been a Cleveland baseball network affiliate for 75 consecutive years—signing up with the WJW radio-led network in 1948 and all other iterations that followed—which has to be a record of some sort within MLB, if not close to a record. (Paging @fybush - would there be any Red Sox radio affiliates with that level of tenure?)

I would think so as well. He and Manning both will turn 69 during the season, and it's been impressive to me in recent years how little time any of their broadcasters take off during the season ... although it seems like the addition of Pat Tabler, Ellis Burks and Chris Gimenez to the TV side will lend some variety and allow at least Manning to skip some series or trips.
I'm also in favor of the balanced schedule. I'm a Cubs fan but I got sick of seeing all the divisional teams so many times.

Maybe WDEV in Vermont?

For clarification, Tabler will work a handful of games to give Manning a break, while Burks and Gimenez will pop up occasionally on the Guardians Live pre/post game show.

This is kind of like what the Cavs did by bringing in Brad Daugherty and Mike Fratello to take some load off of Austin Carr.

Carr and Manning are icons, and they go when they want to go, but you do have to think about down the road, so guys like Daugherty, Fratello, and Tabler are getting to show their stuff and have it filed away for future reference.

With Hammy out, Rosey did PBP tonight. I'm sure he is a nice, knowledgeable guy, but his PBP just doesn't come close to Hammy's.

Hammy is Johnny Carson, Rosey is Ed McMahon...always been that way.

And while Rosey is a solid announcer, I can't picture him yelling "Down goes Anderson, Down goes Anderson!"

Rosenhaus isn't as bad as many people make him out to be. Is Tom good? Yep very good. However, I always preferred Herb Score to Tom Hamilton myself.
