EMF set to expand in Memphis

Radio Digest is reporting that Audacy has sold 94.1 WLFP to EMF. I would assume Klove will move to the bigger C2 signal and air 1 will pick up the C3 94.9 stick. A nice upgrade for both .

The article also stated that Air 1 was on Flinn's WIVG 96.1. This may be why CCM was dropped and The Pig was brought back on 87.7 a few months back.

I still have trouble understanding their profit/non profit status...maybe someone smarter than I can explain exactly how it works...

THE RAMIFICATIONS OF AUDACY’S BUFFALO & MEMPHIS SPINS

"In Memphis, this sale looks to be the first step in a game of dominoes.

EMF’s programming is already heard in the market with “K-Love” on Class C3 94.9 WKVF Bartlett and “Air 1” on the combination of 96.7 W244BY Memphis via WKVF-HD2 and Flinn Broadcasting’s 96.1 WIVG Tunica MS.

Audacy has begun the game of dominoes with a memo to staff and advertisers first shared by Country Aircheck indicating that the “Wolf” brand will remain within Audacy’s holdings writing, “While it is true that EMF is purchasing the 94.1 frequency, we are NOT getting out of the Country Business in Memphis. WLFP has been performing very well for Audacy Memphis, and we just recently added market veterans Duane and Abby to afternoons. Audacy Memphis is actually doubling down on the Country business, and we will be moving WLFP to another larger frequency reaching all the outlying areas in the Memphis Metro area. We have a lot of big plans for The Wolf moving forward, including adding a local live midday host to our already stellar lineup.”

WLFP is the lowest rated of Audacy’s four FMs in the Memphis market tied for thirteenth in the Memphis market with a 2.7 share. The note in the memo about moving to a larger frequency eliminates Sports “92.9 ESPN” WMFS-FM, which simulcasts on 680 WMFS leaving either heritage Hot AC “FM 100” 99.7 WMC-FM and its 6.0 share and AC “104.5 The River” WRVR with an 8.8 share as the brand likely being eliminated."

There seems to be a grammar problem here. Also, FM 100 and The River seem too popular to be changed. Is there something missing?

Emf keeping 2 kloves in Memphis . I reached out to their staff and asked when air 1 is coming to 94.9 and was told emf is still evaluating what to do with 94.9 and will continue to simulcast for the future. I wonder if they are looking to trade or sale 94.9 but wouldn’t tell me that . In Macon the main 105.5 signal a c3 covers Warner Robins well but they have a class a licensed to it that is still klove years later.

It would make more sense to turn 94.9 into Air1 since 94.1 covers the same area as 94.9 and then some. 96.1, if Flinn doesn’t sell it, can simulcast it with 94.9 as Air1.

The calls have changed with WKVF moving to 94.1 and flipping 94.9 WWAI. FCC Data is reporting that 94.1 has an HD2 and Hd3 airing Klove 2000s and Klove 90s. Is that true. Also 94.9 in HD aired the Air 1 format on HD2 and it fed a 96.7 translator but since Air one is moving to HD1 what is the HD2 airing and is 96.7 still translating it/ Thanks

I figured one station would become Air 1 eventually. What is 96.1 doing now? I know EMF bought it from Flinn, who was already carrying Air 1. In any case 94.1 will be a better signal for Memphis than 96.1.
