Commercials on an HD channel!

Listening in the car at about 4:10 this afternoon, I heard two commercials in a row on KOIT HD-2 ("Highway 1 Radio"). They sounded like national spots, but, still, they're commercials. I was rather stunned.

They could be burning off some barter spots on an HD2 if a contract permits it.

I also hear the HD2s that double as the iHeart national feeds on the app run a stopset or two each hour.

The late KFRC HD-2 ran two spots an hour. For years, it seemed, they were from GEICO insurance. Almost certainly bonus spots from other stations in the cluster, which could be the case at KOIT.

I knew that KFRC-HD2 inserted PSAs every so often, but I hadn't heard actual spots there.

GEICO is everywhere, it seems.

By the way, regarding some of the other replies, I suppose I should have narrowed it down to "HD subchannels not simulcasting an AM station nor being simulcasted on a translator" but at some point I go for simpler descriptions.
