S.A. 6+ PPM MAR 2023

KONO takes a noticeable dip: 8.9 to 7.8. Y-100 is back in the Top 5 stealing some thunder from KAJA. Classic Rock took a dip as well 6.2 to 5.3.

Upward with Latino Hits 104.5! Fiesta will be very kind to this station next book. Vibe 107.5 is also upward with noticeable music shifts and live/local mix shows...

IMO Jack-FM could use a big overhaul to be a Top-5 contender again (not really digging the Irish Voiceovers). It's been on autopilot pulling decent but idol meters in the elevators/waiting rooms but that's it. TPR is pulling nice numbers.

KTSA topping WOAI is a big deal. Any thoughts why? Is it the 107.1 translator? Is it Trey Ware? Their shows are hyper-local besides Dave Ramsey 1-4pm.

Finally, Norteno 104.1/720 is back this book, Tejano 95.7/103.3 continues a slow burn. KROM and KMYO are truly spinning their wheels- sad for Full city-grade signals. When KEDA beats KXTN-AM it's a new day in San Anto...

Who else thinks SA could do with another top 40? There's just 96.1, but that's been around since I was a kid so probably doing well.

As for KEDA they were around since the 1960s'.
I thought 11.5 years ago it might drop it's live shows when the new owner bought it, but so far I think it's still local.

KTSA has put in a ton of work behind the scenes to improve the quality of its product across all its platforms. This growth has been building for well over a year and a half, a "slow but steady" strategy and process. Trey has a role, but Trey and Sean together has made a big difference in mornings. The rest of the schedule has been strong as well.

It may shock some, but working to make a better product tends to lead to better results.

OK, it's just after 8PM here in San Antonio. Time to "twist the towers" for AM nighttime signals.

1. Surprised to find that the radio on my dining room table can still hear KLBJ 590. It's rather light but actually listenable. Does anyone know if they are using the new tower with reduced night power yet? Maybe its just all the recent rain improving the ground wave.

2. On KTSA, a couple weeks ago Trey Ware made a statement that his company really knows radio, and that if it didn't, he would work somewhere else. Don't want to see that, but, well, I know that they DON'T KNOW RADIO. Why? because they don't even listen to their own radio stations to see what's going on. Every night, KSAH 720 becomes an unlistenable nightmare. With an otherwise beautiful signal, there is a severe clicking dropout every few seconds. Tonight, it's every second. How long does this go on before I register a formal complaint to the FCC. Would that be wrong? Should I try to call them first? If they don't even listen to their product, why would they care?

I love KSAH, especially Pili Gonzalez in the mornings.

Maybe the bigger question is like this: If radio is dying, why are the stations doing it to themselves? They have NOTHING to offer except AUDIO! With a few exceptions, most of the FMs and AMs are compressing the music beyond all recognition.

From Radioinsight-
TelevisaUnivision had the sharpest drop falling from fifth in 2021 to ninth in 2022 with revenue declining 16.6%.

TelevisaUnivision needs a new vision for markets like SA. 92.9 and 95.1 have great signals but perform poorly in the PPMs.

From Axios: Latino Media Network
The group is eager to do more mergers and acquisitions.

IMO, I wouldn't be surprised if Univision sales the SA cluster to LMN.

The stations, all of them, are monitored constantly. Alpha Media takes great pride in the services provided to the listeners. It sounds like you don't fully understand how the complaint process works with the Commission, but I assure you that your gripe will most certainly fall on deaf ears.

Contact Jeff Caudell, Robert. I assure you, if there's a problem in the audio chain of KSAH, he's the man who will get it fixed. Or, you could simply switch over to the FM band and tune to 104.1 for your Norteño needs. I'd reach out to Jeff, if I were you. An email goes a long way.
