The shows changing networks thread

Jumping networks isn’t new of course. But this scenario, with the active spinoff remaining on one network while the parent show moves…now that seems a bit unique.

This is nothing new for ABC. It happened with “Diff’rent Strokes” after NBC axed it while it renewed “The Facts of Life.”

Once still makes it exceptionally rare given the sheer number of TV shows. More comical this time is the shared name. A bit akin to seeing Law & Order somewhere else while L&O SVU chugs along on NBC.
 
You see alot of shows switch networks alot but not very seldom you see a show switch networks when the spin off is still airing.

Like mentioned above abc aired the final season of Diff'rent Strokes when NBC was still airing spin-off Facts of Life.

A sort of Spin-off of the Golden Girls called The Golden Palace aired on CBS while the Golden Girls spin off Empty Nest was still airing on NBC.
 
Ones I remembered in the top of my head are:

Family Matters and Step By Step, moved from ABC to CBS (which was weird to me, was used to see them on TGIF back in the 90s)
Medium, moved from NBC to CBS
Brooklyn Nine-Nine, moved from Fox to NBC
Last Man Standing, moved from ABC to Fox
American Dad, moved from Fox to TBS
Futurama, moved from Fox to Comedy Central
 
Others that moved networks that I can think of were:

Unsolved Mysteries from NBC to CBS to Lifetime
Davis Rules from ABC to CBS
21 Jump Street from Fox to Syndication
Baywatch from NBC to Syndication
America's Most Wanted from Fox to Lifetime
Sliders from Fox to the Sci-Fi Channel
Jag from NBC to CBS
The Critic from ABC to Fox

Then there's some in daytime and Saturday mornings I can think of also

Power Rangers from Fox to ABC to Nickelodeon to Netflix
Beetlejuice from ABC to Fox
The Edge of Night from CBS to ABC
Search for Tomorrow from CBS to NBC

Buffy the Vampire Slayer moved from The WB to UPN in 2002 for its' last season while its' spin off Angel continued to air on The WB until 2004.
 
Note that 9-1-1 is a very expensive show with actor salaries being renegotiated after season seven. It could be a one-and-done on ABC due to potential cost increases.

Much older examples of shows switching networks: Leave it to Beaver had its initial season on CBS before moving to ABC for the rest of its six year run. And My Three Sons ran for five years on ABC before moving to CBS for an additional seven seasons.

Full House original edition moves from ABC to Netflix as Fuller House in the reboot edition. Show is owned by WB.
