CHR switches to standards in Bend, Oregon

Interesting to see this as the choice demo to serve. I wouldn’t say there is any better money in this??? But locally maybe it’s there. Though I gotta say there isn’t the longevity here regardless.

I wonder if this might be indicative of what other companies do who are tired of trying to woo the younger demos who are or have abandoned radio for streaming??

It's easy to believe that Bend might be only big enough for one CHR station to thrive there, but KWXS wasn't all that far behind its format rival in the non-Nielsens. So why the need to pull the plug on CHR? Maybe the sales people at the competition developed relationships with local businesses better than KWXS's, turning them into paying advertisers.

What a waste? It's 2023 not 1980!
But in that market, where local direct sales are most of a station's business, nostalgia may have a much greater appeal to advertisers than today's crop of CHR music. Obviously, this was a business decision.

Rod Tanner is a DJ, but I don't know yet how that works. My guess is he's voice tracked and this is not a satellite format, since we would know if someone was doing that.

It's "standards" by the new definition. I haven't heard any "real" standards but it has just been a few minutes.

Edit: "Paper Moon" is a standard. I wasn't aware James Darren had done standards.

"Standard" is not a precise definition. Every programmer and every music industry veteran will have a slightly different definition, age range, sound description and "feel" for that category.

Advertisers so far have been a golf resort, urgent care, a school that lets you learn at your own pace, some event, a car dealer, and tell Congress local broadcasting is here to stay.

Rod Tanner said he is through for the day.

I'm trying to define it for the people who on another thread were asking for a standards station with more actual standards.

This is not like writing Wikipedia articles; you don't get to dictate the definitions of music styles, formats or artists.

There is, however, a difference between the "adult standards" radio format, which continues to evolve, and the type music people call "standards", which is on WLML with only a few exceptions, though that station doesn't have the familiar versions or in many cases even familiar songs.

Serenade Radio online is nearly all standards by WLML's definition.

Bob Worthington is on now, if this helps identify where the music is coming from.

Google is your friend. Bob Worthington does voice tracking and voice-over work for many clients from his home studio in Maryland. Explore his website and you'll get an idea of just how ubiquitous his voice is. In fact, if you search for "Bob Worthington radio" (without quotes), your results will include schedules from stations far and wide that use Bob as their friendly "local" DJ, and their listeners never know that he isn't. Or just don't care.

It's obviously voice tracking since whoever the DJ was at the time he said Steve Perry was coming up in a few minutes and his song started immediately.

I went back to a station that played the good music, since being online I have the choice.

Probably see more and more of this as the younger demos continue to go elsewhere. FM will do the same thing AM began doing in the 80's. Old music and talk formats.

The post from Insight said it was Local Radio Networks, a quick Google search gave me the following: Adult Standards - Local Radio Networks

It's a canned format, all they have to do is provide spots and imaging.

This is the only affiliate of LRN's Adult Standards I'm aware of. Does anyone know of others? According to their pie chart, 25%, or 1 out of every 4 songs of the music are Crooners. That's not what I'm hearing.

And satellite is not required for their stations.

This is why I mentioned it might be satellite. I'm not sure whether that is how it is delivered.
Most are delivered online, usually in work parts that are assembled by each station
