KYUK Drops AM 640 Tower. Plans future AM return.

KYUK's AM 640 tower is a casualty of the changing permafrost conditions,

"After half a century of use, KYUK's AM transmitter came down on Thursday as part of a planned upgrade. It means the 640 AM channel will be unavailable for a time and communities will have to tune in on 90.3 FM and rely on repeaters scattered throughout the region to get a radio broadcast. The AM will be back up in a week or two.. your headline is a bit mis leading,@RF101 suggesting this is something other then a routine tower replacement.

Definition of "future" : t > 0 . The headline remains true. Besides, in Alaska you never know what events can transpire like earthquakes, bad weather, flight cancellations, etc. that mess up buildout plans.

What is fascinating is that it lasted 50 years with the tower standing on a buried wooden post!

The crew and gear are already on site, work begins on monday to replace it, if it hasnt begun already

True that, @DavidEduardo we have some coax and antennas at our KSKO rebroadcast stations that havent lasted 20 years... some far less
