Disc Jockey All-Star Team

The Major League Baseball All-Star game is coming to Seattle this July. That got me thinking. What would an all-star line-up of Seattle radio DJ's be (past or present)? Here's mine to get the discussion going.

Starting Line-up:

Mornings---Charlie Brown and Ty Flint (KUBE 80s)
Mid-day---Stubbs (KMPS)
Afternoons---Steve Slayton (KZOK)
Evenings---Wayne Cody (KIRO Sportline)

Bench:

Ichabod Caine
Mark Christopher
Larry Nelson
Connie Cole

Feel free to add an overnight host. I couldn't recall anyone specifically other than a national program like Talknet, Dr. Ruth or Dr. Demento that I might have caught back in the day.

Oh and try to stay on topic with this post (LOL).

Wow, it’s hard to think of a “perfect” lineup, because there are so many great personalities that have come from/through Seattle. I’ll make a list of the personalities that influenced me the most, and who I find the most memorable over my 28 years on this planet.

1. Ichabod Caine
2. Steve Slayton
3. Bob Rivers
4. John Curley (if we are counting talk radio)
5. Gary Crowe
6. Mark Christopher
7. Stacey Ireland
8. Dori Monson (for talk and his involvement in the seahawks)
9. Dave Neihaus
10. Rick Rizzs
11. Dave Ross
12. Corey Fitzner (perhaps not my favorite, but he’s definitely memorable).
13. Gregg Hersholt
14. Jane Shannon
15. Heidi May
16. Bender Cunningham
17. Jodi Brothers
18. Marty Reimer
19. Jubal Fresh (again, memorable)
20. Kent and Allen
21. Mike West
22. Beau Roberts
23. The Men’s Room
24. Danny Bonnaduce and Sarah
25. BJ Shea
26. Deanna Lee
27. Steve Raible
28. Brock Huard
29. John Clayton
30. Scott Vanderpoole
31. Nate Connors
32. Sarge
33. Jim Dai
34. Janet Wilson

Wonder who had the longest run in terms of years? Getting great ratings and sustaining them for decades seems to be the real test. Charlie Brown on KJR and KUBE? Gregg Hersholt on KJR, KIRO and KOMO? Ichabod on KJR and KMPS?
On a single station maybe Larry Nelson on KOMO, Dave Ross on KIRO, Kent and Alan on KPLZ?
Dave Niehaus and Rick Rizz are in a category to themselves when it comes to play by play announcers' longevity and talent.

This has to be a joke right? Where is Robin and Maynard ? Pat O'Day ? Eric Powers ? Shellie Hart NOT even a mention of Gary Lockwood. Looks more like a bunch of your past empolyers and facebook friends but whatever.

Not to be rude, but I’m far too young to have ever listened to Pat O’Day or Gary Lockwood. Not taking away anything from him (clearly they were both legends), but I’m just referencing personalities that I’ve personally listened to. Eric Powers could be on the list, but I’ve never personally heard his show so I didn’t think of it at the time.

Eric Powers and Shellie Hart I could see adding to that list. Given Ford's age though, the only other possibility would be O'Day. I don't think I could place Robin and Maynard if I heard them. Were they on KJR 95.7 in the late '90s?
Personally, I think the current morning and afternoon shows on KISW plus Rivers and Dannie Boniduce would make a station that would be hard to beat. Hart, Powers, and Mark Christopher I could see doing well anchored by Kent and Alan.

And not to even make mention of Cathy Faulkner... do you even radio ? I mean WAY more of a contribution than any single dude or lady on this list.

I’m sure that’s true, but again, I’ve never listened to her show. If I had more exposure to her show, I’m sure she’d be on the list.

When I think of Seattle radio, I think of:

Robin & Maynard (including Terry McManus)
Jeff King
Crow & West
Mark Allen
Kent & Allen
Steve Slayton
Beau Roberts
Eric Powers
Shelly Hart
Bob Rivers

All of those names above (thanks toughguythursday) would count as all-stars in the Seattle radio DJ business. Ichabod Caine too (KMPS).
I may be a little nuts saying this, but what about some other KRWM talent...i.e., Will Johnson? Or Dianna Rose at the former KWJZ, broadcasting "City Lights" every night? I grew up with those two names on 98.9 and 106.9. Jay Phillips too, but I don't think he's as much of a contender.
I still remember the Christmas music on 106.9 in the '00s, they always changed his name to 'Rudolph' Johnson. Synonymous with the holiday season.
