When was the last time a Country station was number one 12+ in Seattle? Did very well in demos too.
Country seems stronger again in several markets. Wonder if someone will challenge KKWF again?

Top 5+ demo rankings analysis for ages 25-54, 18-34 + 18-49:

25-54: 1. KKWF (up from #4; was #17 in Nov.) 2T. KJEB 2T. KQMV 4. KHTP 5. KEXP 6T. KISW 6T. KJAC (up from #11)
18-34: 1. KEXP 2. KQMV 3. KZOK 4. KUOW 5. KISW 6. KHTP 8T. KKWF (down from #4) 8T. KSWD 8T. KNDD 8T. KRWM

Well, I will go ahead and be the first to bring up the elephant in the room: KPNW AT ONLY A 0.5. I really thought that number would be a lot higher this time around. Should we be worried? 😟 I really like this station and want it to be a success. KEXP, although down in overall share, is still doing fine in the demos, as noted above.

I just joined and this is my first reply. I cannot believe that after the last two ratings books, that no regular contributor has at least tried to make the connection between KIRO fm ratings and the loss of Dori Monson. I can understand why KIRO didn't replace him in the first two or three months, but to continue with Spike and Jack, week after week, seems just insane.

April is always a slow month from what I understand, considering they blew up a stations forrmat, it takes a while for the new target demo to tune in.

KPNW-FM goes from a .3 to a .5? Uggghhh. I guess the hope is that this is a format that's slow to build. Others have said the station has only started hiring air personalities, so these ratings don't show us the station's potential. But I don't know if any successful station has ever gone from a .3 and a .5 to the Top 10.

I'm also surprised about how Country is suddenly so popular in Seattle! KKWF is #1 18-49 (tie) and #1 25-54. Even when Seattle had TWO country stations, I don't think both stations added together would equal these numbers.

It is interesting to note the consistency in KSWD's ratings over the past four books.

I was wondering if KIRO's downward trend was due to Monson's passing, but didn't get the chance to look at the ratings until 5:30 or so last night, much later than I usually do. The numbers KKWF is getting really make me believe a change could be coming to 101.5 in the next year or so. I'm also surprised nobody here has mentioned that at the end of July, Lisa Adams will be leaving that station. It sure seems to me that any station she programs with a few exceptions will flip formats in a few years, but the format it flips to will be extremely successful. Speaking of current based stations, I've noticed that all the stations with a current based format have followed the same pattern over the last several books. Either I haven't been paying that close of attention before or I've just never noticed it, but I find that interesting. At this point I give KPNW two years, but we'll see 101.5 go country before that. As for KJR on 93.3, I'm still not sure how to feel about that. On the one hand, based on the ratings they're getting I don't see any reason they should have moved it, but on the other hand what would go on 93.3 if they were to reverse those changes? The only thing outside of country I could see happening with that would be a clone of Sacramento's 107.9.

Maybe Santa FM or Christmas music “as Star 101.5” will come back then. I miss the time when they went all-Xmas but with Lisa in the PD position decided not to do that probably thinking that flipping to X-mas music wouldn’t make sense on a Hot AC station but whether all-Christmas would work on this format depends on the market and whether any sister stations are doing it and how many stations have flipped.

K-Pop might work on 93.3 as well since the genre is popular in Seattle with an English presentation (with the PoP branding duplicated from Hawaii but idk if it will work there since numerous listeners might want “KUBE” to come back to that signal which I don’t like due to the bad lyrics in the songs that they played though 90s/2000s music might work as well even though I dont like every song from those two decades. By the way about 97.3 I think the format is boring but the lower ratings could relate to Dori’s passing.

Maybe it’s mainly cause of the format change that they have this high of ratings therefore combining the two stations shares.

They dropped a lot of currents and added more songs from the 90s/2k to compete better with KRWM and KSWD which isn’t working… They have also added Curt Kruse and one of their weekend personalities to attempt to improve ratings which hasn’t been working probably due to people not wanting the other newer personalities on their station. Maybe they will tweak their on-air lineup/music selection to improve their ratings once they get a new PD. Btw Curt Kruise will probably tweak the music when Lisa Adams leaves to improve the ratings of the radio station since he would be in control of the music entirely by then.

Uh....None of this makes any sense.

They still kept some of their currents… they just focus more on songs from the 1990s, 2K and 2010s. They do have Mount and Angie Mornings and Julian still on the station. Idk if they will be dropped when a new PD comes in though. Btw Santa FM could come back unless the new PD or Lotus decides not to flip it. Lotus could have a rule that would prevent the new PD from ever bringing back Santa FM or it could be a PD preference since most Hot AC’s never go all-Christmas and never did.

Could that be due to the demographic bracket they're trying to home-in on?

Uh....so?

That's always a possibility anywhere. Some groups will hope the PD will work with legacy talent in order to firm-up the station branding/image looking for growth within the demo, where other times there is an understanding that the PD has free reign to look for new talent. None of this is voodoo rocket science.

Honestly, who cares if they did? There are too many Christmas music stations around the holidays anyway all playing the same stuff. It used to be cute and unique. Just like anything traditional media; eventually it gets overdone and becomes cliche'.
