Kansas KIBB>KBOB

My Town Media has obtained permission from Townsquare Media, holders of KBOB-AM 1170, to use the KBOB-FM callsign for KIBB-FM 97.1

Hearing some different programming on the stations today. The simulcast among all the stations has appeared to be split: 92.7 (KWME) is still doing adult hits, while 100.5 (KVWF) is apparently doing oldies/classic country, from my last check. 97.1 has so far been silent.

Scratch that, 100.5 went back to the adult hits simulcast that all stations had been simulcasting since last fall, complete with muddy audio. (Earlier, it appeared to have been fixed.)

FCCData is showing that MyTown closed on the stations yesterday.

Did some more checking: approval for the KBOB-FM calls was approved a day after filing, and are slated to take effect May 23. Not sure what MyTown’s plans are for the cluster: stunting on each, jump right into their new format(s), etc.

Cool on the sound effects but they have to air an ID and give themselves away every hour at least once.

As mentioned above, they do a sequence ID’ing every station simulcasting at the top of the hour.

Since the sale to Allied was called off and RM promptly pulled the stations off air for several months before returning to the air, each station really hasn’t had a formal branding (save for a few months of The Brand, a brief return of Bob FM, and very, very brief stints as MeTV FM and Jammin’). They’ve all been running some sort of syndicated, music-based format with no imaging or local advertising ever since, with many periods of dead air, sometimes lasting a week.

That is quite the TOH ID

New call letter sequence included a mention of ‘these are Murfin Media stations.’ MyTown is a subsidiary of Murfin, an oil and gas production-based company HQ’d in Wichita.

Unless this has changed recently, two entities own the stock in MyTown, and Marvin is one of them. One owns a hair more than 85% of the stock, and the other owns just under 15%. Not sure which is Murfin and which is the other (possibly Wachter).

Guessing last weekend's format changes in Pittsburg and Springfield are related.

Context.

I think they have some deal for Bob Fm

I missed exactly when, but around 11:30 PM late Tuesday, I noticed they were off air completely. Sometime between midnight - 1:30 AM early Wednesday, Bob FM is officially back in Wichita.

“The best of the 80’s, 90’s and whatever!”

"Also acquired in the bankruptcy were KWME, 92.7-FM; KVWF, 100.5-FM, in Augusta; KKLE, 1550-AM, in Winfield; and KLEY, 100.3-FM and 1130-AM, in Wellington.

Murfin Media’s My Country format, which already is airing on six of its stations, will play its country and red dirt format on 100.5 as well.

For the Winfield station, Yearout said, “We’re working on a 24-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week bluegrass format.” Yearout said he’s still making a final decision on 92.7, but it may simulcast 100.5."

I knew My Country would be on at least one of the frequencies. Bluegrass is surprising. But for 92.7 to simulcast 100.5? Seems it would make more sense to put it on KLEY and the translator that, to my knowledge, hasn’t even come back on yet.

I guess trying to compete with Power and take their older demos, or even try to snag a part of younger demos, is completely pointless.

What is the fascination about doing Country in Wichita? Almost every station has tried it. Only 1240, 97.1, 103.7, and 107.3 have never been Country. The station they should bring back is Flight 100.5. The AAA format had non radio people raving about in on Facebook. That was the first time in years I had seen regular people.excited about a.radio station.
