They are going to share songs. Again, the differences lie in what the stations aren't playing. Just looking at B101 over the past few hours, I can tell ya The New 96.5 is never going to play "What's Love Got To Do With It?" by Tina Turner or "Tainted Love/Where Did Our Love Go?" by Soft Cell. Not too likely you'd hear "Man in the Mirror" by Michael Jackson on WTDY either.

Ironically (for this thread/topic), B101 did play "Under the Bridge" by RHCP today. 😏
 
And Sam Smith is current, of course. But his music is generally of a texture that also fits in with the B. Hot? I mean, I guess technically speaking, sure, why not. But that’s not what I’d point to and say, see, the B is suddenly veering into hot AC…any more than Celine Dion made them hot back in whatever decade she mattered in.
 
I don’t like every popular hit from today but I think TikTok and streaming is defintely causing ratings to go down on CHR stations causing them to flip to Rhythmic Hot AC or other formats.

“Unholy” is vastly different from Smith’s previous material - it’s definitely an EDM influenced track and no ballad, so very different, it’s no “Stay With Me”. However, I can see it doing well or at least decently with the AC audience.

The biggest issue with CHR, Churban and Urban is that of lyric that can't be broadcast. Since stations can't play all the hits, listeners go to where they can hear them... which is online, via streams or per-play sources.

And I actually liked the AC more 30 years ago than now.
Not that I don't like today's Mainstream AC, but its harder to find softer stuff, unless you go stream it somewhere.

Just ask the folks running WRFF. Sure, people listen, but if advertisers don't want to buy spots, do those listeners even exist? Sorry, I'm trying for a tree-in-the-forest thing here.

I guess that’s the crux. Is it great just to have listeners you can’t sell? I tend to think of “great” ratings as being numbers that are sellable—so both the quantity and quality.
 
I am actually extremely happy that the Hot AC format is back in philly. Hot AC has much more of a likelihood suceeding in this market than a classic hip hop format would
 
I like this.. also the exact same format as WNEW and WJSO. Listen to all three of them now. Speaking of WSJO do they do well in ratings?
