That's Amazonia, the Brazilian station. I recognize the language and the voice of the guy who's always hosting their evening show.

There's Mauricio Rabelo.....

This guy:

And here
Fast forward to 4 minutes and 10 seconds then listen for about 30-40 seconds you don’t have to understand Portuguese to catch the mention I did, and i bet you know who it was in reference to

Does anyone know what language this is?

This is from this morning at 6 am.

According to ShortwaveSchedule.com, the only station broadcasting at the time was Radio Saudi in Arabic from Riyadh.

It just seems too good to be true I could get that from over 9,000 miles just barefoot.

My camera can only take videos under 15 seconds now for some reason without overloading the file data.
AOKI lists Saudi Arabia as broadcasting the Koran, which usually is chanting in Arabic, but I've heard other Arabic stuff being broadcast by R. Saudi.... The language sounds a little like Arabic, though. It has some of the sounds.

And Saudi Radio has 100KW, non-directional, and signals in the 21 Meter Band can go a long way.

AOKI lists China in Turkish during that same time slot (1500-1700 UTC). But I would lean towards it being Saudi.

Hopefully we can get Sporadic-E going more. So far last year seemed better but we say that every year :)

Still empty handed on the west cost us so far. Seems others have had some luck.

I hope so, too. So far in San Antonio I’ve only had brief Es openings on April 18 and May 7 this year.

In years past, May 24 and/or May 25 have been big Es days here, but there has been nothing this week. Hopefully the ionosphere will get its act together soon.

Trying to break the habit of procrastinating on old recordings might help y'all. Last night, I digitized another hour or so of Es from last season. Found KGCX-93.1 Sidney MT from the 7/3/2022 opening, which had remained an unid until now. That's now my first Montana Es log in Yakima! 780 miles.

Yeah I heard the mention of Alaska, as well as Bolivia, and earlier he was telling the moderator how Radio Nacional da Amazonia reaches all of Brazil as well as parts of Colombia and Peru, as well as the 'frontera' (frontier, probably -- the interior) and he mentioned several Brazilian states (as he often does on his show -- it's a lesson in Portuguese as well as Brazilian geography).

I recognized his voice right off. A voice tailor-made for radio!

I was thrown off a bit when he was introduced -- they seem to swallow their Rs in Brazil I guess. Sounded like Mauricio Rchabelo.

Thanks for posting the vids.

Looks like Mauricio is quite the star in the interior of Brazil. From the second vid clip, it looks like he was a politician for a while. I found this Wiki, and even if you can't read Portuguese, it mentions him being on Radio Nacional Da Amazonia and being a congressman from Tocantins (a Brazilian state north of Brasilia) in the mid 2000s.

Here's a clip of him saying something about Radio Nacional da Amazonia to his listeners on YT.

His last name is pronounced Like the R is an H... Huh-bell-OH

He is quite the star and his RNA show is fun to listen to even if you dont understand portuguese.

I participate somewhat regularlyh with short whatsapp voice notes and have taken to using a few portuguese words since mauricio's english is self admitted very poor.. and they get a kick out of that. I've even had regular listeners send in whatsapp voice messages that mention me

"Frontera" in both Spanish and Portuguese means "border" and not "interior".

This is one of the few cases where shortwave still seems effective. In the areas of the headwaters of the Amazon in Southeastern Colombia, Eastern Ecuador and Northeastern Perú, all the towns of any size have radio stations of their own and shortwave is, for all practical purposes, gone... and has been for decades.

Can i interest you in investing in a SDR at some point? :)

When you have digital I/Q recordings it makes going back a lot easier. The quality is persevered among with RDS data etc. Only issue is they do take up huge amounts of storage.

As a bonus it is possible to pull HD stuff out of I/Q files tho complicated to the average user. Sometimes allows you to a DX a station on a non empty frequency. I've had 95.5 KLAQ due to this in the past.

I just got a bunch of 20tb drives for about $280 each. That should make storage a bit less costly for those that want to save a lot of listening.

Once I am able to move out into a place with less interference, and ability to put up decent antennas. That's not possible in an apartment complex. My dream is to have EWEs, a beverage and a Korner 19.3, FM6, or equivalent rooftop FM antenna but that can't happen yet...

I am also waiting on whether I will be hired or not for full-time teaching. Have made calls to the districts but nothing yet regarding interviews. I've applied for five jobs in three school districts, two of those jobs have already been filled. I know with Selah (one of the districts I'm applying for), there's a lot of hill blockage for translators and even full-power FMs. 98.7, 89.9, 88.9, 88.5, 99.3, 92.5 are *easily* defeated by good Es in several parts of town.

You'd be surprised at how well even a indoor dipole can work. Even rabbit ears can do a fantastic job.

Of course depends how high up you are in an apartment. Higher is better.

2nd floor. There's been more translators added in Yakima since 2021, so the noise level is even higher.

A bit annoying.

I did gain 106.7 this year as the AM station it belonged to turned in their license and is now slient.

With that said I've seen 10m and 6m Es this year. Beacons. No FMBC yet.

Decided to go back and look at some old stuff as well again.

This is from 6-17-2021 of 93.3 CJBZ Lethbridge, AB Canada. Noteworthy for how strong it was.

During the event I had 95.5 CHLB also in Lethbridge replace KKHK here.

Es drought has ended here. Lots of people got stuff today.

In the morning started off with friends SDR in North Caronia getting Nova Scotia to Quebec. Later on they got on and got Nebraska and got Quebec and New Brunswick.

Locally here in the evening i had a decent opening to Texas to Oklahoma. Mostly relogs but 1300+ miles to Oklahoma City. A few presumed logs in here due to path and format.

We need to summon you to WTFDA, Eric. Jim Thomas was wondering who the heck was logging DX in Aptos - until I told him "hey, he used to be on the TVFM logger, it's Eric in CM96". $10 a year dues and access to a skip logger that does NOT tolerate spamming. Mike Hawkins in SF logged KLUR Wichita Falls last night (99.9).

Unfortunately, Murphy's Law. I was in my church's life group meeting last night. DXSphere in eastern WA was logging KATR 98.3 in CO, KPRD 88.9 in KS, and a few others. All I had was unid religious stations on 88.3 and 89.7 and I was not allowed to leave the meeting (started at 5PM) to spin the dials. Hmm, maybe I do need an SDR after all!!

Congrats on the end of your Es drought for this season. Nice catches. It's too bad the opening didn't extend further south into Texas. Maybe tomorrow I'll get a droughtbuster as well. ;)

Hopefully you get some good stuff soon.

I'd like to get San Antonio via Es but the path i think is a bit too long. Most reliable longest path into Texas is San Angelo. In theory it is possible via single hop but I'd have to be lucky.

Everyone needs to take a lunch break to their cars on the east coast.
Es is ERUPTING ... 108 MHZ MUF, 3-4 deep at times, I'm logging FL MO MS on the Milford PA Global Tuners
Even some locals are being wiped to shreds
