Call Sign Changes

Does anyone know if there is still an ongoing record of call sign changes? The one I know about hasn't been updated since July 1st! The database used to be part of CBDS but has been moved. This doesn't seem to have anything to do with changes, only an aid for stations wishing to change calls.

Call sign history does exist in the LMS tables. I don't think it is as "good" as the previous CDBS version. You can also look at a station record at FCCdata.org.

I'm not looking for history but rather, current changes. Long ago, Broadcasting Magazine printed weekly changes. When I found the FCC site, it was about once a month. Lately, it was down to about every three months. Since July, there have been no further reports! It seems unlikely that stations don't change call letters anymore! They must have moved them somewhere but where?

OK.. You are referring to the old monthly notices the FCC used to release with FCC call sign change activity. Based on the timing of when those notices stopped being published (July, 2022), my feeling that this was a work product of the former FCC Call Sign Reservation System that was retired and replaced with the current process of using the LMS filing system to request call sign reservations. When that system was retired, the reports stopped.

For now, you can search the LMS database for call sign change requests, but that method requires you to look at each application. There is no comprehensive list like there used to be.

This is a product that REC Networks can build since we are already storing this data. I will add this to our list of projects so we can restore such lists as an REC Toybox application that would be available through the recnet.com website.

If you are looking for a list of potentially available call signs for assignment, you can check out:

Also, REC's FCC.today will show call sign actions granted that day. These changes will show in the Actions section with application file numbers beginning with "CSR" and in most cases, it will show the new call sign that was granted on that screen.

But, if there is a need for a return of the old style list, this is something we should be able to do. Stay tuned to REC for details.

I have a rundown of the weekly call sign changes on RadioInsight's weekly subscriber only FCC Report.
