Flex For Thursday Night Football

probably the biggest issue for fans of the visiting team at Raiders games
It's an issue for everyone who buys tickets to any game that gets "flexed" from Sunday afternoon to Thursday night. Most working people have Sunday off. Few have Thursday off, and even if they can make it to the stadium after getting off at 4 or 5 p.m., they won't get home from the game until the wee hours of the morning, in no condition to go back to work at 8. You also have night-shift workers who won't be able to get to the game, period.

All are legitimate issues, but in the end, a business does what it needs to for its overall best interest. On the other hand, there might be some people who work a non-traditional week / schedule (many fall into that category) who might find an opportunity where others find a challenge.

That's what the battle was about. The owners of the Giants, Jets, Packers, Bears, Lions, Steelers, and Bengals were opposed.

An earlier version of the proposal was tabled at the league meetings in March with strong opposition from New York Giants owner John Mara, who called it "abusive" to fans whose schedules would be disrupted.

Meanwhile, Dallas owner Jerry Jones said "This should show our fans and the media industry that we'll do everything we can to make streaming on Thursday nights successful."

That lays out the battle lines between the fans who attend the games and those who watch on TV.

Oh well ... If the Thursday game doesn't involve the team I root for, I settle for radio, maybe switching to an off-shore video streaming site if it's close and must-see in the 4th quarter.

i'm sure it's still in the NFL rules that the game must air on a local broadcast TV station in the home team's market & away team's market just like when a NFL game aired on ESPN or NFL Network. so i'm sure you can see the Amazon Prime Video's Thursday Night Football for free legally without the need of a webstrean if your local team is the team playing the game and it's airing locally on a local TV station/

I'm on the far northwest fringe of the Patriots' market, and YouTube TV doesn't carry any of the Boston stations. (I believe Xfinity carries a couple, but I cut that cord years ago.) So I think I still have to get Amazon Prime or find a pirate.

I think I remember the players also being opposed to this as they didn’t want to play Sunday then play 4 days later, as they thought without more time between games they’d be more likely to suffer injuries.

Yes, the Amazon Prime games are broadcast OTA in the teams’ home markets.

I think I posted this at the time, but last season when the Eagles played the Texans on a Thursday night, the game was on KTXH here in Houston. Oddly, the Amazon Prime stream was about 25 seconds ahead of what was being broadcast OTA! You would think it would be the other way around.🤔

It depends on how fast your stream is plus was Channel 20 get the game straight from the stream or another back channel way. Also were you using the rabbit ears or watching the game via cable/satellite.

Actually was watching the Astros in the World Series that night😁but checked the Texans game during commercial breaks. Had the idea to compare Amazon Prime to direct OTA with an antenna, just to find out how much of a lag there was. Quite surprised to find the reverse of what I expected.

I have one gigabit symmetrical fiber, so no issues there.
