And for my PBS Station KPBS in San Diego, AS USUAL, started today its 3-WEEK March Membership Campaign and it will END on Sunday March 19th, as usual as a 3 WEEK CAMPAIGN!!!!

Apparently corporate contributions to public broadcasting are down this year, so they need to raise more from viewers.

The good news is the donations from viewers like you will lead to matching funds from CPB and other places.

With so many options, I can’t imagine pledge nights are nearly as successful as they once were. But I recall the WTTW auction in Chicago, which raised decent money in the late 1960s and was fun to watch.

Screenshot_20230603-185838098~2.pngHere's one from KQED San Francisco. And interestingly Katy Perry one of the biggest pop stars from the 2010's has her concert as Pledge Programming. Well at least PBS affiliates are attempting to lower the demo as millennials are at mid-age and attempt to attract a crowd who mainly heard of certain songs trending on YouTube.

I find it funny that they have "Aging Backwards 4" listed as a movie!

Last night, apparently a number of PBS stations ran a Lawrence Welk memorial that was recorded in 1992 as a pledge program. Mr. Welk last produced a new show 42 years ago.

I've got to wonder if that might be targeting an audience a bit too old, even by PBS pledge standards.

Next year they’ll probably run a Tommy Tune special

probably hoping they'll forget to cancel their monthly pleges

Or even this oldest pledge drive, it's from The Festival '79 Marathon (Sun. March 18th, 1979) taped from KCET 28 in Los Angeles, California, TV Worth Staying Home For...First they do some breaks from the national talent from the Marathon studios at Thirteen PBS-WNET from New York, New York then afterwards go to local talent from PBS stations across the country:

My local PBS Station WOSU 34 in Columbus, Ohio is carrying the current pledge drive through December 3.

I remember one summer back in the early 1990's that WOSU 34 drastically cut their broadcasting hours when it didn't get enough pledges from viewers. I believe WOSU 34 was on the air from 5 to 11 PM each night that summer.

Have any other PBS stations ever reduced their broadcasting hours when they didn't get enough pledges from viewers?

If PBS is that desperate, there's a certain popstar that's currently on tour that has gotten all our attention for going on the past year & seemingly whatever she touches, it turns to gold.

I'm not sure if PBS Affiliates have the budget or foresight to air the Eras to boost donations. How the contracts are written at that time may prevent PBS affiliates from doing that and also PBS itself has an image to boost attention to documentaries and news programming.
Also Disney+ signed the contract to Air Era's concert for their app.

I'm not so sure about PBS airing the Beyonce too if one is looking within the top two pop stars in the US to boost donations given the way the contracts were written. Yes median age is a factor here between the ages of 34-42.
