And Metallica on KXT? Wow! I’d love to hear the calm sounding KXT DJ’s introduce Metallica.
I do remember Paul Slavens playing Slayer on his show. He also played Black Sabbath’s Planet Caravan. I remember me being in disbelief as he announced that, because it sounds very little like the usual Black Sabbath hard rock hits.
Also, Jackson Wisdorf, their evening DJ plays in a metal band. When he gets to add a personal pick, it can be a garage rock song or something about that fuzzy.

I need to listen to KXT more often!
The whole metroplex does. I know the radio pros here are right: a bigger playlist never gets you bigger ratings, unless your call letters are KEXP. However, KXT, KTCU, KNON, KEOM, and WRR are the only music stations I hear anybody say anything positive about. KXT puts a lot of care into balancing the hits with the deep cuts and the up and coming and and actually gives a chance to local artists. They’ve got great on air talent and their locally produced specialty shows are fantastic. I hate how they struggle for donations and that they have such low ratings.

The future of radio is in listener-supported stations. Right now the only listeners who seem to be willing to support radio are Christians. That has to change or they will be the only ones who own radio stations.

There's an old line that goes: If not you, then who? If not now, then when?

I do my part. I give them 90$ a year, which is about what I pay for my Spotify premium. I, jokingly, wish I could have any radio that tries to tune into Star 102.1, Jack FM, KLUV, and Especially Garbage 103.7 would be redirected to 91.7 instead.

The thing about long playlists is that they do appeal to radio and music nerds -- in other words, exactly the sort of people who hang around on radio discussion boards. A song that might make many of us go "wow, I haven't heard that in a decade" and turn up the volume on the radio will tend to cause a lot of people to go "what the heck is that" and change stations.

That was 60 years ago. Even if you were 20 at that time, that means you're 80+. Now it all makes sense.
I was 18 when I owned my first station and 17 when I worked in the Hemisphere's largest radio market.

What that obviously means is that I have about 10 times as much radio experience as you.

All pretty strong country markets. It is currently Garth's #1 most-played gold song.

From what I can see, it never charted in Billboard's Hot 100.

we play it... lol

in fact, both stations im on play it lol

Let's see what the Audacy financials say when they come out for Q4 and 2022... this week, I think. They obviously have to do something or they may need to change the company name again; I suggest "Titanic Media".
I would love to see KRLD get one of the FM stations. It's different from other all news stations where they have their own meteorologist and seem to be a lot more personal and connected to their audience. If we have severe weather or breaking news, you can count on full coverage on KRLD. To my ears their AM sounds terrible and extremely over modulated. But I really like KRLD because they hire some of the best in the business and let them do their jobs.

Tbh Big 103 is more Rhythmic-leaning than Jack FM considering it plays more Classic Hip Hop than Jack FM though they only play one-two times per hour. However “Big” I’m sure also include grunge and 80s music as well as other rock, AC, and older pop titles.

105.3 is KRLD FM... 92.5 was originally KRLD FM but when it sold and the call flipped it to KAFM, the KRLD FM call was held by CBS since it had the AM...

I just checked. KRLD 1080 is now on KJKK HD2. Classic country is gone. :( KRLD-FM is no longer running HD. KJKK HD3 is running The Bet.
Audacy has given up on music on HD Radio subchannels due to money reasons, but i wouldn't be surprised if the concept of HD Radio subchannels as a whole goes bye bye thanks to the fact that it's easier just to put it on webstream since the newer generations of radio listeners aren't listening on AM/FM/HD, they listening via iHeart or Audacy or TuneIn.

What money reasons? There is no additional royalty for HD Radio as there is for streaming.
Labor costs or, at least, a distraction that makes no money for the program staff.
