CHR switches to standards in Bend, Oregon

"Perfidia" (the English version anyway - I believe she also did it in Spanish) is on Westwood One's playlist, last I checked. It's a great rendition.
It is. The orchestra is great on that. I haven't listened much lately because I got tired of so many commercials and so few actual standards. Sounds good on the way to the beach even if a lot of it is soft AC.

The song is, like most actual standards on America's Best Music, relegated to the commercial breaks that don't have commercials provided. So your affiliate has to play what is played during that break instead of running its own commercials for you to hear it.

And getting back on topic, KWXS played three songs that were standards rather than AC that I had never heard of, but I liked. One was by Perez Prado, who was played on Stardust though I never heard him on America's Best Music. I recognized the style of "Cherry Pink" so I knew it was him. And Rod Tanner said it was him. So the format, if this is one being played in multiple markets, isn't just playing the same few songs that have been proven. I also discover a lot of new versions or even new songs on Serenade Radio, which is British (with at least one show hosted from the U.S.) and online only.
I just heard Perez Prado's "Patricia", another great tune from him, on KJZY. I think this station might be a little too Great American Songbook for your taste, but it's the one I listen to most.

WTLO 1480 AM/97.7 FM in Somerset, KY recently switched from America's Best Music to the LRN format. Another is WCMY 1430/93.5 FM in Ottawa, IL.

Some songs I've noticed on LRN (via streaming WTLO and KWXS) that aren't played on WW1 (or weren't last I checked):
Doris Day - Que Sera Sera
Dee Clark - Raindrops
Eydie Gorme - Blame It on the Bossa Nova
Janis Ian - At Seventeen
Sammy Davis Jr. - Something's Gotta Give
Vikki Carr - It Must Be Him (used to be heard often on WW1)
Teddy Bears - To Know Him Is to Love
Peggy Lee - I've Got the World on a String
Anne Murray - A Little Good News
Don Gibson - Sea of Heartbreak

I'm not concerning myself with labels. I'm just enjoying the music while it lasts.
My local station WDEA-AM1370 Ellsworth, Maine is running this format. I enjoy it.

Paylist too modern for me.
I agree. I keep being tempted by :Oh wow" songs and then remember how much I despised the 80s tunes.

"Family Guy" had an episode in Bend that I saw recently and they listened to this station. Or maybe KWXS was inspired to choose the format based on that. People just love "Sweet Caroline", as I noticed at The Tonys.

That list of songs bears a striking resemblance to my Part 15 AM station's playlist....

She also did a fantastic rendition of "Dream A Little Dream Of Me."

If more stations do this, I'm looking forward to it!

I'm right in the 35+ demographic, but with my taste in music, I might as well be 70+!
