Drew Hayes Exits KABC

Drew Hayes was the VP/Market Mgr./PD of KABC and was in his second run with the station (was the PD in 1998-2000 and from 2013 to present).

I wonder if that was his decision alone? Hmmm

I wonder if Cumulus isn't preparing to sell the station while there is still something left to sell (there really isn't, but that is a different discussion).

My understanding for the last several years was that KABC was a place to clear some
of their syndicated programs in the #2 market. But perhaps the cost/benefit analysis doesn't hold up even for that anymore? They have done next to nothing to promote or innovate the station for years, with predictable results.

BTW, it is worth noting that the final descent of the station started when they hired John and Ken for about a year and proceeded to muzzle them so much that they went running back to KFI. The station lost whatever cred it had at the time, and KFI has never looked back and KABC never climbed out from the hole they dug for themselves. Tying this back to the thread, I think Drew Hayes was a major part of that episode, but too much time has gone by and my memory may not be correct on that point.

In fairness to KABC management, it doesn't really matter what they do, a conservative talk station on that weakened signal is simply not tenable.
