92.9. deja vu. again. again. deja vu.

Did anyone ever decide why nobody ever took on Mix? If for no other reason than to siphon off listeners?

P.S. Does Y'all show up on this list...ever?

Ugh, 92.9! I was in Discount Tire not too long ago, to get my tires rotated, and they had 92.9 piped in. While I was in there (and FORCED to listen to them!), I noticed that they STILL play that Natasha Bedingfield song from something like 20 years ago, STILL in heavy rotation! Only forced to listen to them for about an hour or so, and they played THAT? Not a bad song, but does ANYTHING ever rotate out, especially after having been played heavily for literally YEARS? Ugh, I KNEW that there was a reason why I don't listen to them anymore!

Natasha Bedingfield's "Unwritten" reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2004. And it peaked at #1 on the AC chart. So that sounds like a song that an AC station should play in regular rotation. I'm not a fan of it either. But playing popular songs over and over is what AC is all about.

(I didn't know that the youngster who played Archie Bunker's niece on "Archie Bunker's Place" and later seasons of "All In The Family" is a co-writer of the song, Danielle Brisebois.)

The question from the OP is, why doesn't another station challenge Mix 92.9? Well, most markets have only one mainstream AC station. So even if Mix 92.9 is getting VERY good ratings, I guess you don't split the audience.

Another question might be, why does Nashville have no Hot AC station? Instead of jumping in the country music pool, 106.7 WNFN might have tried that. It may have even kept some of WNFN's Top 40 audience, had if it moved to Hot AC gradually. That's a missed opportunity!

FORGIVE ME!*** I will sound like BigA on repeat, or like Mix, which must be playing Bedingfield about every other tire change...Fire.

Mix needs "protection" and so does Jack, so you shouldn't fire format shots at yourself. You are right Gregg.
No HotAC. WSM-FM has been on a roll and this format may well take a share (or more) from each of the
three country stations. Subtract that from the competition and also get yourself into the country fray and the
more local advertising will come your way.

What is also of interest, but it's kind of quietly discussed is the various reasons for slippage on CHR. Not only is
the music in a valley, but the demographic is fragmented away from radio, so you aren't replacing listeners. Them
old peoplez are looking better all the time.

*** sounding like BigA should raise the all caps red flag, right, CT?

So if you could have any stations on in those places, which ones? Trust me, Firepoint, I get it. There would be those who say, you are not supposed to like the music, etc., true it's not geared to "our demographic." I still contend the February kick sure shows you how a new very loyal listeners can kick things in. "If they all go on vacation for the same two weeks in July....we will know why." :)

You know that I would have Hippie on! I live just across the field from the cell phone tower where their transmitter is, and they are just about the only local station that I ever listen to anymore. Rock on!

Arby's in Bellevue does indeed occasionally have Hippie on.
