Craig Carton Leaving WFAN

Craig Carton is leaving WFAN to focus on his Fox Sports 1 morning TV show
which reportedly will earn him "millions".
Last WFAN show will be Friday 6/30/2023.
Andrew Marchand had the story first in the NY Post just after 10 AM on Thu. 6/15,
necessitating Carton + Roberts to start their show one hour early at 1 PM to address the issue.

Barrett Sports Media has a detailed article with quotes from today's show:

Andrew Marchand's NY Post story:

Audio podcast of the Carton + Roberts Thu. 6/15 show (1 PM - 3 PM) which includes the announcement:

(The 1st hour with the announcement was replayed on-air at 5 PM.)

***** ***** *****
"Hello My Name Is Craig" will continue to air on Saturdays from 9:30-10 AM.
(The gamblers addiction + recovery program is recorded at the WFAN studios on Thursday mornings.)

Former NY Daily News football writer Gary Meyers has tweeted that former NY Giant Tiki Barber will be Craig Carton's replacement.
Barber currently co-hosts middays on WFAN with Brandon Tierney. Marchand had also mentioned that Tiki was a leading candidate for replacing Carton. Thus if true, a shakeup across 2 dayparts for The Fan.

I would put Brandon Tierney & Sal Licata In PM Drive. Move Evan Roberts to Mid-Days with Tiki Barber. Carton Has Fire 🔥 Power. Brandon-Sal would fill that void.

Marchand confirms that Tiki will join Evan (no official announcement yet).
BTW, a spelling error I made in a previous message:
it's Gary Myers, not "Meyers" as it appeared in the AwfulAnnouncing.com article.

Something to consider outside of show content and ratings performance:
The opportunity WFAN has with former NY area athletes like Boomer Esiason and Tiki Barber to schmooze with clients/sponsors at station events/promotions/outings.
This can contribute to not only on-air ad sales but also non-traditional (off-air) revenue.

Not to be impolite. But if WFAN is Giving him Afternoon Drive Just Because he’s a Former NY area Athlete and he can meet with sponsors/Clients. Toss out Ratings & performance. WFAN doesn’t have to worry about them. Bart Scott is a Former NY area Athlete. He could’ve talked to Clients/Sponsors. But he probably didn’t get much of a chance. Because They let him go because of performance & Ratings 🤷

Not to be impolite. But if that’s the only reason WFAN is Giving Tiki Barber Afternoon Drive, Because He’s a Former NY Area Athlete & he can speak to Sponsors/Clients. Toss Performance & Ratings out the window. Because I guess WFAN/Audacy Don’t have to worry about them. He Doesn’t have the Energy to Match Craig Carton’s, He’s really limited to football & There are other Hosts at the Station Who are more Qualified & Have Better chance of Filling Carton’s void. If he doesn’t get ratings, there won’t be many Clients/Sponsors to smooze with.

WFAN will have a "special announcement" on Tuesday 6/20/2023 at 4 PM ET on the Carton & Roberts show.
It's likely to be announcement of new WFAN lineup starting Monday 7/3/2023 (or maybe Wednesday 7/5/2023.)
Newsday's Neil Best (via Twitter) believes that Sal Licata will replace Tiki Barber in middays alongside Brandon Tierney.
**********************
I'll give you that WFAN/Mark Chernoff/David Field panicked when Chris Carlin-Maggie Gray-Bart Scott didn't take off out of the gate and Mike Francesa was brought out of retirement to stop the bleeding in May 2018.

NY Post's Andrew Marchand also reporting that Sal Licata will be Tiki Barber's replacement in middays:

With this move Licata can retain his job as host of "Baseball Night In New York" on Sports Net NY TV (the NY Mets-centric channel). The show airs weeknights at 6 PM during the baseball season.

There'll be many to choose from to fill overnights as most of the station staff have filled in recently during Keith McPherson's leave for his child's birth.

I’m happy The Teamed up Brandon Tierney & Sal Licata Somewhere. I still think they should have put them together In Afternoon Drive, But This will make for an interesting listen Mid-Days
