IHeart’s 104.7 Translator Flips back to Talk

After dropping WONK-FM to simulcast their new sports 1190, the translator is back to talk radio for DC clearances of their conservative talk shows.

I heard on the Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show how excited they were that they will now be heard in the Washington DC market. It's the new Freedom 104.7! One of them was saying how traffic is so bad in DC and their fans will now be able to listen to 104.7 as they drive to and from work. The station will air their show, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, etc.

But they failed to mention Freedom 104.7 is just a translator. They made it sound like it's a real station. One of them said the Washington DC market is large, stretching from Baltimore down to Virginia. But they failed to say 104.7 won't cover any of that, other than Washington and its closest suburbs.

W284CQ has 99 watts of Effective Radiated Power ERP. The market's other Conservative Talk radio station is Cumulus-owned WMAL-FM 105.9 with 27,000 watts.

But the real talk leader in Washington is NPR affiliate 88.5 WAMU. It's the market's #1 station, not just overall but #1 18-34, #1 18-49 and tied for #1 25-54. The 104.7 translator will barely be a blip in the ratings in DC. WMAL-FM is #7 overall, but not seen in the top five in any of these demographic breakdowns.

The HD2 that feeds it can be heard in Baltimore and Fredericksburg
