KSKO 89.5 McGrath, Alaska Tower Cam!

We have a surprise for everyone! The "McGrath Airport Webcam" has been relocated to the KSKO broadcast tower in front of our building and the Cap'n Snow Center camera was moved to the Innoko Lodge for a better view of Iron Dog & Iditarod arrivals.

Borealis Broadband was in town Tuesday & Wednesday to get the work done and they worked hard, but got it going!

I offered space on our tower because I view the camera as a resource to the community and also a chance to promote the city. Had it not gone up on the KSKO tower it likely would've gotten shipped back to Anchorage entirely and we would've been down one camera in the city. Plus the camera is pretty small and light so it doesn't affect anything of ours

mcgrathAirportCam is the camera on the KSKO tower.

mcgrathSnowCenterCam is the camera on the Innoko Lodge

(ignore the actual address for now, it may change later.. if it does and you can't find it go to this main page it's on the bottom near the left Webcams

Looks like such a pristine Alaskan view. Too bad there's a bunch of trash on the ground right in view. Need to send some of your employees out to clean up the ground around the camera. ;)

What employees? Im the only full timer and i have one part timer, whos just an announcer.

The horizon is beautiful. But what the heck is the collection of trash and rubbish in the foreground?

The rubbish is an old FAA building. It was across the street 20 years ago FAa sold it for $1 with the stipulation you move it off the land, there was a bar bet between a few guys that one guy couldnt do it .. he said watch me, moved it where you see the rubble as he owned the iditarod trail roadhouse at the time but doesnt anymore.. the current owner tore it down and is getting rid of it piece by piece.

we had nowhere else to point the cam that offered any worthwhile view

I was joking, that's why I used the emoji: ;)

A bar bet in Alaska?? Never heard of such a thing! ;)

It's too bad because otherwise, it would be a great view.

A lot of really remote places are like this in patches. I go to remote Scottish islands a lot, and there are defunct old cars and vans full of crap everywhere. It costs money to get the damned things off the island, and people would rather spend their money on other things, so these cars just get parked and used to store more trash in.

As for the KSKO trash, someone has left a message for us all:

It is NOT KSKO trash. It belongs to the business next to us, the iditarod trail roadhouse cafe next to us, as explained further upthread

Christ, I'm sorry! Must be a bad day in McGrath

Nope a good day actually..... that pile of rubble and how long its taken to get to this point is a bit of a sore spot with some of us in town

Why doesn’t the city or county fine the landowner or business owner?
what county?

There is really nothing hes doing legally wrong with that pile of rubble.. and im not sure we have laws that would apply to this situation

BTW, that vehicle in the shot belongs to our clinic.. they have several.

Just sharing to show how small a town this is.. we KNOW EVERYONE'S VEHICLE here, despite that less than perfect image :)
