SBS Buys KROI for $7.5 million

I believe it is for the overall sale. One of those is for the three RO is acquiring and one each for KROI and KTHT to the trust. My understanding is the "amendments" you are seeing, supercede the original applications. So it should be cleared now.

Radio One still needs to close on this, but I would expect that to happen quickly. And I suspect we will see a sale with a lma to SBS for KROI filed very soon after closing and finally the buyer for KTHT will revealed in that assignment app assuming the deal is still in place.

That’s what I thought, but wasn’t positive. I figured something was about to happen once we got past the 90 day mark.

I’m thinking next week for the closings. I would guess the divestitures happen first, quickly followed by the Cox acquisition. Curious about the logistics of moving KMJQ and KBXX to the KKBQ/KGLK/KHPT studios, as well as the SBS takeover of the RO facility. Guess we have to wait for where KTHT will wind up, though that could be a satellite dish at the transmitter.

Praise 92.1 and Country Legends 97.1 still going as I type this.

Ha! I'm just going to stick with my previous offering that the 89.3 facility will be shown the rear exit door at Treble Drive. Imagine what Aleluya could accomplish with KTYR and 89.3 paired up.

Most closings take place on the last day of the month/first day of new month. Otherwise, issues of allocations by day have to be done on all the expenses and income.
 
I know many are cheering for Tropical but SBS does not know Houston so they would not win but Regional is a bit different specially with the PD they have hired who has worked the format in Houston.

SBS has fairly successful regional in LA, SF and Chicago. That format on a signal that is better than the Estrella media stations could work well.

Good point, but it seems there are lots of examples otherwise. I recall that the 92.1 sale to Radio One back in 2004 closed on September 15.

I’ve posted before about how Regional Mexican (done correctly) on 92.1 would likely shred La Raza and the inferior 98.5 signal. They won’t beat 102.9.

My big question is how SBS will make things work as a standalone in the market. I know you’ve said they don’t want rimshots, after I had suggested they acquire KTJM and KQQK to complete a cluster. But how else would they expand here, unless Audacy was to implode into a zillion pieces.🤔

I don’t think the 97.1 signal would be a good substitute for 89.3 on the SW side. KXBJ 96.9 is also too weak to be a factor in that part of the metro area.

I’ve wondered whether HMG would eventually launch WAY-FM in the market, but they might not want to damage KSBJ. They could add 97.1 as a KSBJ simulcast and flip KHIH and KEHH to Vida Unida.

At least that might mean that their current plethora of signals in and around Houston could be flipped to something else.🤗

All idle speculation until the 97.1 buyer is revealed.

Are you still thinking La Grande 104.5 goes away if 92.1 flips to Regional Mexican? And is a call change for 92.1 in play?

Yes sir. I already have a new mouse on order, so I can drop this one when it actually ends up being Hope. Like you aptly stated, it all makes too much sense. Knowing KSBJ, they'll end up with one of the Aleluya in city translators (or the 96.9 translator Relevant just obtained) as part of the 89.3 divestiture, to alleviate the concerns expressed by Mediafrog and yourself. I have heard KXBJ for myself. Unless the Relevant translator is more impressive than I realize, KXBJ will pair nicely with KTHT. The sheer mileage of that simulcast would just about eclipse that of The Eagle. That's quite a reach, and feather in the cap, of Hope.

The drum still beats. 😂
 
I should add that when 96.9 was purchased by the Foundation, 89.3 in Victoria was sold to Aleluya. 96.9 is a hair better rimshot to the town of Victoria than 97.1 is to Houston, but certainly not by much. 97.1 is, arguably, the best rimshot Houston has on the dial, and what I am proposing already has the precedent set with Hope involved.

Feel free to jump aboard. There's a stick and an extra drum in it for the both of you.

I agree that 97.1 is better than the eastern rimshots, but.... i'm not going to get aboard the 89.3 divesture idea.

Here is a Google Earth of the 60 dBu contours of KXBJ, KSBJ, and KTHT and a second without 89.3. Without KSBJ there is a huge hole in the coverage. Not going to happen. If Hope is the buyer of 97.1, they will divest KEHH in Livingston or repurpose it though.ktht-ksbj-kxbj.jpgktht-kxbj.jpg
 
One other thing I came across when I was generating that map... KSBJ filed an application this week to make a technical change on 89.3 that I don't think has been mentioned here yet. Currently KSBJ has an ERP of 87 kW at a height above average terrain of 159.6 meters.

The new application is for 60 kW at 225.7 m HAAT from the same tower. The lower power is to compensate for the substantial height increase, although the new signal should be slightly better, especially in fringe areas.

I don't know if anyone from Hope/KSBJ is lurking here, but there is an error in the FCC application. The new HAAT calculation appears to have been inadvertently carried over from the currently licensed facility, not from what is proposed. It would be best to correct that before the FCC processes the application.
