KROQ Movie Proposal

Coachella didn't start till October of 1999
And it has become less and less dependent on alternative rock, with this year's event starring (among others) Bad Bunny who is to alternative rock what a Twinkie is to vegetables.

In fact, the transformation... for survival... of Coachella into a rap, rhythmic and even world music event shows how much alternative has declined or fragmented.

I don‘t think it’s an alternative rock issue. Just wait until you see the line up for this year’s jazz fest in New Orleans. Outside of Woodstock 1969, which major music festival is successful that plays to only genre? Twinkies provide necessary carbs

Quite a few big successful country music festivals around the country.

BTW Woodstock had a wide range of performers from Richie Havens to Ravi Shankar. Joan Baez to Canned Heat.

Fine. Whatever. All I'm trying to do is to put the KROQ festival into a time perspective with other festivals. It doesn't matter. when Coachella started. Who cares when they started. They went urban/rhythmic because that's what their 18-24 audience wants. They will probably stay urban/rhythmic a long time.

I will say that Richard Blade is much more successful at endlessly promoting himself on any possible media he can, than he was as an air talent. He was just an average DJ, but because he had a British accent and talked about alternative rock, people thought he was some kind of music genius. He was nothing special, but because he wrote and self-published books, or did podcasts, or social media, or sends articles to Radio Insight, or Yahoo, or any other platform he can reach, then he fosters peoples' belief that he is still relevant. He wants people to believe he is special because he had some kind of so-called scandalous, lascivious, affair with a singer that lasted less than a year, then he got tired of her, and they broke up. He is not relevant any more, but he does his best to insist that what he has to say is very important. It's not, IMO.

How much has country music itself changed to stay relevant?
Country has transitioned, not transformed. From the fancy glow-in-the-dark suits of the singers to lots more steel guitar, banjo and fiddle, we see country much more pop influence. But the change has been very gradual over the last 5 or 6 decades.

Yup, noticed that some new country takes elements from even hip hop, pop and rock. Even wondering if some country singers are using auto tune in their songs.

Don't the people that are on the Hollywood walk of fame have to pay to be on it?
There is a fee that covers everything from presentation security to the star itself. It has gone up, and last I checked was about $50,000.

Most are paid by either the artist, their agent or whoever did their last rec. so fewer are doing it.

Some years ago my partner was accepted for one, based on her TV, movies and radio achievements. The fee had just gone up and the station did not want to pay it so we let it drop.
