I'm still interested in how Nielsen will resolve this mess.
If Audacy's stream pulls a decent rating/share, and at the expense of Townsquare, it's a sure bet the attorneys on the third floor will be called to action. Time will tell.
That's the part I don't understand. Abandon is the key word. They had a valuable brand, and we all know how much these companies value brands, because they name their top content person a brand manager. That they just walk away from this one makes no sense to me.
Yes, and the word "abandon" or "abandonment" is often found in legal treatises relating to situations similar to this. "Relinquishing claim to" is often cited. Yet, there's another wrinkle, and that would be the duration of abandonment. Additionally, there are service marks, copyrights and trademarks, as well as "use in the public domain" to be considered. If only I had taken Professor Kingsfield's class.

There is a highly detailed procedure for such things. If just "Star" is written in, then the diary entries will be randomly distributed between the two Star stations in proportion to each station's verified diary entries. So if the stream gets precise mentions for 5% of the total Star mentions, then the unspecific Star mentions will be given 5% to the streamer and 95% to the OTA station.

Usually, the prior survey period data is used to determine proportionality, but in this case the tabulation has to be done based on the verified data in the current survey period.
