1680 now simulcasting KKDZ

KNTS 1680 is now simulcasting Radio Punjab, also heard on KKDZ 1250, after months of simulcasting KKOL. This seems to have happened within the last week, I think, as 1680 was still simulcasting KKOL when I last remember checking this frequency. I actually didn't notice it until an AM DX'er in Michigan actually alerted me and others on a Facebook page.

Makes sense, as 1680 and 1250 are under the same owner, but I thought that sale happened last year. I would have thought this format flip might have happened sooner.

Uh no.. 1250 is owned by the Punjabs... 1680 is owned by Salem

Unless somethings been sold or announced recently

You have the 1590 and 1300 deals mixed a bit. Salem bought back 1300 KKOL last year and then sold 1590 to Relevant Radio after switching that frequency to that Catholic network's programming.

I detect a high level of sarcasm in your post

Just because you dont like it or think its a waste, doesnt mean it isnt serving someone.

they clearly have money to buy stations and are apparently good at serving their audience, means their successful.

What more can radio people want? They bemoan the lack of stations serving the audiences, but then when one does, they tear it down.

Oh right, you want a live local 24/7 airstaff with a playlist of 5000 oldies.
 
From a business side, this move is one of the best things the owners could have possibly done. They’ve got a Punjabi audience around Seattle and the east side, and 1250 wasn’t reaching them. The only option was to find a frequency that could fill the void. 1680 is not a powerhouse signal by any stretch of the imagination, but it hits Seattle and the east side. That’s all they can do.
