WDJO AM Signal

A couple of years ago...I was regularly pulling 1480-WDJO in at night in the Albany, NY area on my Superadio and even on my Walkman! Perhaps they weren't powering down at night for a few months...because I could pretty much always count on being able to hear them on a regular basis...However...I haven't detected them for a while now...
Yes, they were. For a short time on that frequency.

Am was not up yesterday either. I think they are pretty much online now except for the pea shooter translators.
But I'm in Dayton now so it is online for me.
Good sounding stream on my Google Nest Audio

The translators can run if the AM has suffered storm damage or catastrophic loss. Not sure if this qualifies.

Not necessarily...an AM in central Louisiana got crumpled by a hurricane last year, they asked the FCC for an STA to keep the translator on while they did some emergency work to get the AM back on in a few days, FCC said no.. AM has to go off.

If the translators arent permanently tied to the AM or have eclipsed the multi year rule that they must stay with the AM for x years, they can change primaries.

BUt, how many times do we hear of translators on but the orignating signal isnt?

I sometimes wonder like in the case of WDJO does anyone at all listen to that station on AM? if you can't get the FM translators there's so many ways to listen online now desktop computers, laptop computers, tablets, smartphones, smart speakers. really you just don't need that AM signal

Is WDJO AM still off the air or just operating at reduced power? Can't get them at all in the daytime here in Centerville. Was not that long ago I got a usable signal in Dayton and pretty decent signal in Centerville.

In about 1967 I bought a whole station that came with two of those... very similar build. 2 833 modulators and one for 500 watts RF. They went to a ravine.

I keep asking. Got nowhere. Nothing from anyone. Super disappointing that not even a reply is given. Due to lack of a signal (95.3?) on the eastside of the City you would think WDJO would address the AM signal technical issues and, if any, final resolution. Death of AM is getting closer. Sad.
Good to know I wasn't losing my mind -- I recently visited the area (as I used to live in SW Ohio and was a regular listener to WDJO) and I thought it was maybe the rental car's lousy radio that couldn't pull in WDJO's AM signal. Wow, was it bad! Practically non-existant.
