Yes, they were. For a short time on that frequency.A couple of years ago...I was regularly pulling 1480-WDJO in at night in the Albany, NY area on my Superadio and even on my Walkman! Perhaps they weren't powering down at night for a few months...because I could pretty much always count on being able to hear them on a regular basis...However...I haven't detected them for a while now...
John: if the AM is not operational can they continue to operate the translators? I thought the translators had to translate a functioning AM stationCould the AM be considered not worth repairing if the ROI isn't good enough?
The translators can run if the AM has suffered storm damage or catastrophic loss. Not sure if this qualifies.
This explains it; here's a pic of their "temporary" AM transmitter...Is WDJO AM still off the air or just operating at reduced power? Can't get them at all in the daytime here in Centerville. Was not that long ago I got a usable signal in Dayton and pretty decent signal in Centerville.
I assume that's early AM stereo.......
Baby steps. Finally able to get some of the parts. Hopefully back to normal just in time for winter pattern changeSounds like AM 1480 is back. Sounds terrible, but it's there. Heard it on I-74 from St. Leon all the way into town.
Good to know I wasn't losing my mind -- I recently visited the area (as I used to live in SW Ohio and was a regular listener to WDJO) and I thought it was maybe the rental car's lousy radio that couldn't pull in WDJO's AM signal. Wow, was it bad! Practically non-existant.I keep asking. Got nowhere. Nothing from anyone. Super disappointing that not even a reply is given. Due to lack of a signal (95.3?) on the eastside of the City you would think WDJO would address the AM signal technical issues and, if any, final resolution. Death of AM is getting closer. Sad.
I remember that photo, this is in fact a station in Quito. š¬In about 1967 I bought a whole station that came with two of those... very similar build. 2 833 modulators and one for 500 watts RF. They went to a ravine.
