What's happening with WBAP lately?

Over the past couple of days, I have noticed that Rick Roberts isn't in his afternoon host chair like he usually is. In addition, the station website doesn't even mention Rick Roberts, and the show's music is entirely different, including the promos. Can anyone fill me in on what's happening, as I haven't been able to find any info about it anywhere. Thanks.

For what it's worth, his podcasts are no longer accessible either. He is no longer with WBAP, but have no idea on the how and why of his departure.

Yeah, that's exactly why I'm asking this to begin with. Why did the station decide to do a complete 180 on one of their regular hosts without warning or any news coverage? Most importantly, when did this whole thing start to begin with?

my guess is he said something very controversial and got fired or his contract simply expired and WBAP and him agreed to part ways, i guess Cumulus has been busy with working on a new lineup at the Ticket, they hadn't had a chance found his replacement yet. i wouldn't be surprise if Chris Krok gets that afternoon shift and his show is replaced by a syndicated evening show.

It's possible they asked him to take a salary cut and he said no. Or that they just came to the end of their deal.

It's getting harder to get a renewal given the advertising situation. They're basing budgets on revenue, and if your salary exceeds what your daypart makes, there's no upside for them to renew.

"Not looking for another political talk show" according to the article. What are they planning to put in that time slot? Very interesting.

Something more local, less about the usual talking points. Cumulus has lots of national hosts who can talk about national politics.

Take a look at KFI Los Angeles.

Kinda like Mark Davis who was good at both? With the goings on at KTCK and now this, is Cumulus going to blow up the Dallas cluster like they have everywhere else the last 10 years or so?

I saw an ad for the open position on INDEED of all places. I applied and have sent Bruce 2 emails. Haven't heard back.

But . . .

of course I didn't expect to.

They have Casey on Mid Days. He and I worked together in St. Louis at KTRS and in Detroit at WKRK. It's an odd station, but it does well. Much better with content than 97.1.

50kw non directional on the low end of the dial, with a tall unobstructed tower, wow it must get out over 200 miles daytime.....that defines the term flamethrower...

On a good car radio, I was able to get WBAP in Fayetteville, AR 24/7 in college. I could get it on my clock radio by my bed after dark.

I could pick it up in NE Ohio pretty good. Haven't tried in a number of years, will have to see if I still can or if all the formerly good DX signals are going the way of the dodo bird.
