Moug & Angie Exit KPLZ

Part of it is cause they are going to Dallas and I also believe it’s cause the show didn’t affect the stations overall ratings. It only worked within certain demographics. Lisa Adams already left the station according to certain sources though it would be ironic if she didn’t leave yet and will just leave soon.

The show isn't going to Dallas... They were there for a radio industry convention, Morning Show Bootcamp, as was I...

KPLZ struggling to find their next big star since Kent Phillips retired, I see...

I'm still banking on a Spanish format. Lotus is known to have several successful Spanish stations and can't hide from those high Spanish rate cards.

Woulsnt surprise me... it doesnt look like any spanish stations in the market have really great signals, some AM's, rimshot fm's, etc..

Lotus does rock, spanish and sports almost exclusively... with a few exceptions... AAA (i think?) in boise and AC in Tuscon.

And i dont think theyd do rock or sports on 101.5

If not for 106.1, I could have potentially seen a shift toward CHR (along with a rebrand) to see if they could compete against 92.5. However, that would land them in the exact same situation they’re in: trying to compete against two incumbents with strong programming.

I think that Lotus would move news to 101.5 before flipping formats to anything that’s not an absolute slam dunk.

My question is: what happens (in the case of Moug and Angie) when you get fired during a business trip? Do you immediately fly home and enquire with Lotus security where your box of personal effects are?

I’m going with news on 101.5 and Spanish on 97.7 eventually. Even though putting the Spanish format on 101.5 would give a distinct advantage over rimshot signals that currently exist

I wouldn't be surprised to see Northwest News on 101.5 eventually. KYW went to an FM simulcast in Philadelphia in late 2021, but they are still on 1060 AM too.
97.7 is another story. Lotus could keep it as a South Sound/Grays Harbor simulcast of the news format. Or sell it off to a religious operator. Positive Life Radio (KGTS/KYPL/KPLW) just expanded to Portland, the Gorge, and Astoria via what was the MeTV FM on 104.5 in White Salmon, which long ago was KMCQ (in their days serving the Gorge). Portland is also on 104.5 via the translator that used to be WAY-FM. That would grow their reach to the South Sound, and conservative Lewis County, to compete with KACS, satellator K-LOVE, and the noisy multipath of Spirit 105.3. By the way, I did NOT hear them on 90.5 last week while I was up in the Chinook Pass area. Are they still off the air for 'network upgrades'? They were last summer, but the 97.9 translator in Packwood was on (via the internet stream).

They went to Dallas knowing they were going to be getting let go

*If* Spanish ever made an appearance on 101.5, some legitimate questions would be raised about 99.3 and 102.9. I think at least one of these stations could stick around and compete, but all three might be hard to swing. With the right programming approach, 101.5 could capture many of the existing 99.3 and 102.9 listeners.

Back to star: the fact that the other personalities are sticking around indicates (to me) that a retool or rebrand may be on the way, but not a complete flip. Might need to pause on that for a bit. We all know that some revitalization needs to happen. Let’s see how that translates to their plans for the morning show.

KPLZ has been in a tough position for a while. Since moving from Hot AC into a 3 way AC battle with Sound and Warm….as the #3.

Huh? Spanish language stations have a hard time getting comparable rates for comparable audience size.
