WMVP New CP

cue the people comign to b^&ch about the loss of some skywave and 13 less kw at night.when theyre 500 miles away .. but when in fact, the night pattern looks slightly better locally
Bitch cue accepted. Guess that means I won't be able to hear WCFL.......ooops, WMVP as well here in NE Ohio as I currently can. Which is not really a big deal to me since they haven't played music for decades.

That will cover more of McHenry County at night that was in the 'cancellation zone' before. And the lobe actually looks decent towards the NW than before. Yes, I'm a DXer. Yes, WMVP is on my most-wanted list, if I can get through 110-mi. away KNWN. I have 670, 720, 780, 890, and even 1160...but not 1000.
You can't please everybody.

So the nice acreage in Downers Grove becomes (fill in the blank).

According to this, WMVP didn't own its transmitter site. This move was part of the sales agreement:

Not included in the sale are the transmitter sites of KSPN and WMVP. KSPN holds a Construction Permit to downgrade to relocate to the site of soon-to-be former sister station 1110 KRDC Pasadena where it will drop from 50kW day/10kW night from its three tower array in Valley Village to 34kW day/2.5kW night. WMVP will need to file an application to relocate from its 50kW three tower array in Downers Grove IL.

Cue Jim Runyon....."Welllllllll"

Given that the site is smack dab in the middle of a residential neighborhood, I have to guess more housing will go there. It's not on a major thoroughfare, so retail is probably out. That small plot of land (2 blocks E-W and 1 block N-S) won't handle very much.

But can it still be heard ar Amway Headquarters in Ada, Michigan?

Yes. Red Eye Radio is just another conservative talk show now with an occasional weather report and a few commercials for trucking companies, parts, and oil companies. A far cry from their days as Bill Mack's Midnight Cowboy Show on WBAP.
Do truckers even listen to AM anymore? Seems like every semi-truck has SiriusXM in it nowadays. I'd say a good few are tuned to channel 146 (the Road Dog channel), and/or the music channels of varying genres. There may be a few that find Coast to Coast AM on a 50KW affiliate.

The main building on the site still has WCFL on the front, at least as of a year ago.

The ROI is my questioin. It must have been worth in the long run.s

They dont own the site and werent getting it in the sale, so they dont have a choice.... and this option of diplexing is way way way way cheaper then buying land and building given their licensed parameters and need

Bill Mack's all night show on WBAP was a GREAT listen! But IMHO, The current version of "Red Eye" not only pales in comparison to the Midnight Cowboy, but also to the stuff aimed at the same audience on Sirius XM.

As for the proposed relocation for WMVP's transmitter. I;m sure Good Karma is more interested having a (theoretically) improved signal in a high growth area like Kendall county than whatever they might lose on the east side of Kankakee.
