David Gleason Honored at NAB for Preserving Broadcast History

Good stuff, David. I'm sure you've lost track of the number of hours you've spent scanning and prepping the various documents and publications to go live on your website, and even the amount of $$ you've invested in high-speed scanners, servers and other equipment. Nice to see your efforts are being recognized.

Proud to know you, David!
It's a great reward and recognition for the work I have done on www.worldradiohistory.com. It's the first year they have given this award, so that makes it all the more emotion-filled!

There is a saying in Spanish that "nobody is a prophet in their own land". I got the Argentine equivalent of an Oscar (all media in one ceremony... movies, TV, Radio) some years back, but never in the US. And since the history website is a vocation more than just a career, it's all the more exciting.

Where'd Eduardo come in? Gleason has Irish roots. Former stage name from back in the day?
Eduardo is my baptismal given name. In Latin America, one frequently takes a biblical name in addition to the birth name. From being in Latin America since I was 16 (and a follower of Latin American music since I was about 12) I use the two given names for informal identification... like this site.

Interestingly, my genetic analysis shows the family, eons ago, migrated from Galicia in NW Spain to Southwestern Ireland, to about 100 generations ago, my family was Spanish (before Spain existed, of course)!

I gather your World Radio History site is a labor of love. Thanks for all your dedication, time, and effort to afford us all such a comprehensive resource.
It's obviously a labor of love, but it also established "cred" for consulting clients.

I echo everyone's congratulations. Well deserved. Your combination of talent and dedication are rare in this business. I never knew of you prior to this message board (well - maybe the ba.broadcast usenet group - can't remember for sure) but I can't begin to describe the knowledge I've gained from your posts and worldradiohistory.com.

Congratulations once again.

Dave B.

Yes, I was quite active on ba.broadcast in the pre-Internet days. Those usenet groups were my contact with the real world from Puerto Rico at the time.

Congratulations, David! As someone who appreciates and loves broadcasting history (and who spent many days and nights studying Broadcasting magazine archives at the City College of New York and Fordham University libraries years before), I know what you've done is more than a labour of love, but a higher purpose calling. Thank you for all that you've done, and for what more you will do.

David, I'm sorry that I missed this thread last week ! Many congratulations and heartfelt best wishes to you ! That is an honor very well deserved ! I'm so glad that your many contributions to the world of broadcasting are being recognized and celebrated ! This is wonderful news. :) - Daryl
