Lisa Adams departs Star 101.5

Well, could more changes be on the way? Moug & Angie Exit KPLZ - RadioInsight
I think they will keep Star but I believe Moug and Angie didn’t work enough for them to beat KRWM and KSWD so they removed that show though this is also cause they are going to Dallas right now. Maybe they will add more of the old personalities instead that actually worked and move back to its old music direction and bring back Santa FM in November or just move back to its old music direction with more of the old personalities. They took them off of their on-air lineup too but it still states Lisa Adams is on the station rn even though she exited before that. I think they will try to look for a new morning show that is more like the Kent & Alan and Curt & Courine shows and try to see if that works. If this move doesn’t work in a few they might remove Julian as well from the lineup possibly trying to create a new opening for KQMV to bring him back. I still have a hard time with change since I had a hard time with “Santa FM” not coming in 2022 as well as some of the other people in the comments wondering when it would come.

At this point, I think the “Star” branding is a big part of the problem. That branding feels dated, and brings up memories of when Star was one of the most listened to radio stations in the market. Those memories are good, but they aren’t helping Star make any traction in 2023. Listeners need to know why they should listen now, and not why star used to be great. I suppose they could just bring back the “Z” branding, but that is typically associated with CHR. Either way, it’s better than doing nothing.

There's something to be said about brand loyalty, especially with radio. Sure, sometimes the curiosity and buzz around a 'new' station used to drive some sample cume, but those days are likely over. Now, you've got one shot to make that good first impression. If the name has changed, but the product is essentially the same, you've done nothing more than blown up a past that one can't return to.

I think the “Star” brand isn’t really affecting the ratings. Warm still had the same brand since 1991 and they are still one of the most successful stations in the market.

I do think having your morning show host named Moung, could be a problem. Not easy to recall and sounds too much like dung.
I know, I know, that sounds mean-spirited, but there's something perceptually to a name/brand when it comes to word association.

There's no 'n' in Moug for what it's worth. Though I get what you're saying.

Maybe the morning show was only a part of the problem. And people would probably rather hear Julian on stations like 92.5 and 106.1 instead of 101.5.
You can’t put too much blame on the afternoon show, though. While PM drive is a critical part of the station, most listeners are still locking in their station of choice much earlier in the day. The PM drive host can certainly catch the ball and run with it, but I think this is more of a scenario where 101.5 is already behind before most commuters are even in their car to head home. Ultimately, I think Star was looking for a morning show that could “replace” Kent and Allen, and be a recognizable name that people actively want to seek out and choose over any of the competition. And unfortunately for the most recent morning show, they were between a rock and a hard place (stiff competition, and having to do their part to rebuild a legacy brand).

It probably definitely has to do with the morning show but people did not like that the personalities were replaced so they went to stations like Warm 106.9 instead.

My fear with this one is that the new morning show may still struggle to move the needle, and will ultimately end up getting all of the blame. I think that Curt does an excellent job and I hope they give this show some runway. But they (Star) will need to appreciate that they’re starting from a rough spot.

It could struggle tbh. I think they started on Monday according to Instagram which is probably when the new program director came to the station as well.

Lotus has a great track record of running stations financially responsibly and successfully. I have no doubt they already know the stakes and what sort of maze one walks to get there. There are three known facts everyone here needs to come to grips with: Nothing happens overnight. Listeners are fickle. Successful morning shows don't grow on trees.

Good lord.
