"?"Fan of WBAP

I joined this forum in order to find out what happened to my favorite conservative talk show host, Rick Roberts. I hope that he will surface again with some form of dialog on topical subjects. I really liked his style, he was very respectful of his callers and never was dramatic.

He was fired as station wants to move in a different direction.

HONEST TO GOD - I got in my Mother-In-Laws car the other day and was wanting to listen to WBAP. I couldn't figure out how to pull up AM. I sat there for 10 minutes and wound up getting hacked off and just drove.

After listening for a few weeks, every caller is in their 60's it seems. It's a relic. Doesn't sound bad, but not something I could listen to often.

You must have been listening to Chris Krok.

The screener probably had to weed through many callers even older than that! :)
Love your attitude about us relics/boomers, makes you sound real smart.

- No we don't listen to commercials, we hit the button and change the station.
- No we don't stream because we'd have to listen to a new block of commercials with every station change.
- No we don't listen to music on radio because the whole song is processed to be LOUD and it hurts our ears.
- No, we don't hate you kids for not paying attention to what's going on in the world, we just feel sorry for you.

Most talk stations with local shows try to screen out the "blue haired old ladies" (using a term from a memo at WFLA about 30 years ago). Too many older soundiing voices drive away the under-55 audience which is what makes us money.

My dad is in his 70s and he streams stations all around the world on his phone with RadioGarden.

I’m in my 30s and I always laugh when Bill Handel tells a Handel on the Law caller who‘s in their 80s or 90s that they sound about 101! That said, they usually only let one or two of those super old sounding callers on per show.

I have 3 friends in talk radio in top 50 markets, and because of budget issues, none of them even have screeners. Imagine doing a talk show with no screeners.

Radio.
