Audacy Phoenix Morning Show Shuffle

The Morning Mess on Live 101.5 (KALV) debuts Monday 8/28/2023 with hosts Joey Boy, J.D. and Sienna.
Joey Boy is returning to Phoenix while J.D. Whitfield is joining from KOOL-FM Big 94.5 where he was hosting mornings.
Previously J.D. worked at KZON. Sienna has been an event host for the Coyotes and in-game host for the Diamondbacks.

Meanwhile, the replacement for J.D. at Big 94.5 is Dave Styles, also starting Monday 8/28/2023.
Dave has been filling in at K-Earth 101 L.A. Previously he's been at KIIS-FM and KBIG L.A.
Presently he hosts in-stadium for L.A. Dodgers games and recently for the "Wheel Of Fortune" live tour.

Looks like it's "Wheel of Morning Shows" at the 840...again.

J.D. was at "Big" for what...2 months? And the Mess was seemingly on track to be the next big thing...or at least something. Simulcasting in L.A. and then moving to Chicago. Now? Seems like Audacy is trying to make this into a positive, but something(s) appears to have gone south.

I find it interesting how many talent have boomeranged back to Audacy Phoenix after moving on to bigger things. Drew Bland, JD, Joey Boy (though he never technically left 101.5 mornings). Not a slam against any of them just... interesting. Meanwhile the once legendary 94.5 is down to what one local show?

Unlike Radio-Online, which only pastes the press releases they receive (like other publications like All Access and RAMP did/do), had you read on RadioInsight, you'd know that Styles is tracking mornings on KOOL from Los Angeles.

Plus I had the story on Joey Boy moving back to live a whole week ahead of the press release coming out...

The ratings are improved, but the demos are awful. Who could they hire who could bring down the demos to somewhere under 60?

I imagine they're hoping this presentation will scare off the boomers. So far, it hasn't.
If I remember correctly, the current afternoon (and former morning) host at "Big" was originally brought in from New York as an exciting, young, big city morning host for KMLE. And that worked out...about as well as most of the KMLE morning shows in the past decade have.

When Entercom (now Audacy) jettisoned a few long-time KOOL staffers (Maria and Chad, Tom Peake) they moved Niko to mornings there. Then he was shuffled off to afternoons (replacing Charlie, whose tenure ended with the rebranding...?) and now they've got a tracked morning show. Seems like maybe some cost-cutting for a company that's um...taken some financial hits recently?

The head-scratcher for me is the 2 months of JD. I remember him from his first go-around at the station down the hall from KOOL, and I wouldn't have pegged him as a fit for a classic hits station. Maybe that was the "scare off the boomers" move?
